Chapter Eternal
Rex R. Reed '47 entered Chapter Eternal on May 4, 2017, at the age of 95� Rex excelled
in music and athletics and received an athletic scholarship to Morningside College before
transferring to Iowa State� At ISU, he was active in the glee club and choir and earned his
degree in engineering� Rex served as a commissioned officer in the U�S� Marine Corp�,
including tours of duty in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War� He worked
his entire professional career in the AT&T Bell System, starting as a lineman and advancing
to senior vice president and cabinet officer in charge of labor relations� He is preceded in
death by his wife of 44 years, Rita Jean, and survived by his second wife, Mary; daughters
Julie, Nancy, and Linda; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren�
