FARMHOUSE FRATERNITY 4 Nebraska FarmHouse Association Seeks New Alumni Members Ask How You Can Get Involved! A s we arrive near the halfway point of construction for the new house, we still find plenty to do as an Association. There is, of course, the monitoring of cash in vs. cash out vs. loan balance to make sure the construction loan is sufficient. The actual rent for the chapter has yet to be determined as well. It's nice to work with an alumnus for the construction and mortgage loans and have bankers on the Association Board. A new house will also bring new rules and procedures, many of which have not been determined. In the past, members could modify or fix up the existing rooms mostly as they liked. This will not be the case in the new house, but just how much liberty they are given for decoration is yet to be determined. It is obviously the desire to keep the house looking new for as long as possible, so having good policies from the beginning is important. Dan Drvol '78 stepped down as treasurer last month with Mark Nelson '79 taking his place. As a shoutout to recruiting alumni to the Association, there are a few others that are serving their last year on the board. We will definitely look for a new secretary next year as Greg Schardt '02 will also step down after numerous years of service. I know the men are looking forward to moving into the new house. I've had discussions with a few of them about how different fall semester was living in Latitude. Although the Latitude arrangement has gone well, there isn't the same opportunity for brotherhood as there is in the house. The freshmen really don't know the difference, but in conversations with my son who is in the new member class, they are excited about the move. Please contact me if you would like to get involved, and I hope to see you at the house this fall! Fraternally, Lincoln Williams '87 Nebraska FarmHouse Association President lincoln@hoa-solutionsinc.com Greg Ibach '81 Shows Further Dedication to FarmHouse by Supporting Campaign G reg Ibach '81 understands the importance of hard work. Upon arrival at FarmHouse Fraternity at UNL, he realized that he was surrounded by like-minded young men who also had high aspirations. Greg quickly learned that to continue on his path to success, he needed to apply himself to each aspect of his life. His dedication and focus paid off as he now acts as undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The undersecretary carries out the MRP mission area's broad task of facilitating domestic and international marketing of U.S. agricultural products, and ensuring the health and care of animals and plants. MRP agencies, which include the Agricultural Marketing Service and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, are active participants in setting national and international standards. In addition to his presidential-appointed and Senate-confirmed position at the USDA, Greg served as Nebraska's longest-tenured director of agriculture. Looking back at how FarmHouse impacted his career, his life, and his sons, Greg found it to be impossible not to support Nebraska Chapter's campaign to rebuild the chapter house. "Two big factors were involved in my decision to donate to the campaign. First, my sons, Alec '11 and Evan '11, were recent graduates of the university and had also been members of FarmHouse. I had seen firsthand the poor condition the old facility was in and knew that we needed to move forward with a building project. "The other factor was the realization of the role that FarmHouse had served in my life. I wanted the Nebraska Chapter to attract the best young men and continue to build leadership in and through a new generation. Our old chapter house was not going to attract those men. I am proud so many other brothers have stepped forward to support the building fund. We are now approaching $4.3 million in pledges and donations, putting us on track to eclipse $4.5 million." Greg and his wife, Teresa (a Gamma Phi Beta from UNL), live in Sumner, Nebraska. In addition to Alec and Evan, their daughter, Emily, is also a UNL alumnus and was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. Evan and his wife, Ashley, live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he is employed by Scoular. Alec and his wife, Meredith, live in Kearney, Nebraska, and he is a loan officer with Farm Credit Services of America. Emily works for the Colorado Farm Bureau in state government affairs and lives in Denver. In Greg's free time, he enjoys time on the farm at Sumner with his family. Snow skiing is also a great getaway. You can connect with Greg at greg.ibach@osec.usda.gov.
