SPRING 2018 Inside A Global SigEp Leader - 2 Executive Board - 3 Save the Date - 4 ΣΦΕ C O L O R A D O A L P H A s U N I V E R S I T Y O F C O L O R A D O S I G M A P H I E P S I L O N FlatiroN THE D uring the December retreat, the executive board and the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation (AVC) created a substance-free implementation document. Since that commitment, officers have continued to review and update the Colorado Alpha bylaws in preparation for a substance-free facility. We, along with active members, believe an alcohol- free facility is the right way to go in creating a safe and healthy environment. AVC Volunteers Needed Tides are changing within fraternal organizations and on campus, and it's important our active members have both our support and guidance. Now, more than ever, we need alumni volunteers to once again be part of the organization. The po- sition for treasurer is open and we are in need of an alumnus to fill this spot on the AVC. In addi- tion, the AVC regrets to announce brother Emil Hererra, Illinois Xi '04 will step aside from his position as Chapter Counselor. We cannot thank Emil enough for his dedicated service to our brotherhood. Unfortunately, his departure leaves a vacancy on the AVC for a chapter counselor. If you wish to step into this extremely critical role please contact me. Please consider volunteering and reconnecting to the Chapter—you won't be disappointed. RESTRUCTURING COLORADO ALPHA AVC Volunteers Needed as Chapter Transitions to Substance-Free Facility The updated entryway shines with a new light fixture and new paint completed by Allen Robie '82. Allen Robie '82 installed new carpeting and painted the hallway in the Chapter House. 21 New Members Recruited This fall, Colorado Alpha welcomed 42 new members and this spring we opened our doors to 21 new men. In addition, 38 brothers passed through the Phi Rite of Passage on December 6, 2017. We are well on our way to becoming a top Fraternity at the University of Colorado Boulder. Chapter Leadership Training On November 12, the outgoing and incoming of- ficers participated in a retreat to learn the best practices from the past year, covering the skills and knowledge required for a successful Colo- rado Alpha. Officers then completed a Chapter assessment to determine priorities for the year ahead, focusing on bettering the Chapter through academics and philanthropic events. Looking Ahead A dialogue between alumni and active members has begun, and we are looking forward to seeing how the Chapter handles challenges as well as honors. Vice President of Finance Jack Richey '20 and President Jonny Shirazi '20 are creat- ing a budget and payment plan to address debt, and the collegians are working to be the best Chapter, and men, that they can be. Look for alumni and Chapter events to be announced in the near future. Thank You, Alumni Thanks to Kent Hickman '61, undergraduate members will attend the Carlson Leadership Academy. We thank him and all of our alumni who continue to be involved in Colorado Alpha for their time and dedication. Fraternally, Jack Millar '84 Alumni Relations Chairman, AVC Board (913) 705-0485 / jmjohnwilliam@gmail.com
