Elected in 2016, she is the first Vietnamese-American woman to serve in the U.S. Congress. She was named the "most effective" freshman and ranked sec- ond "most bipartisan" freshman Member of Congress. She introduced 12 bills and gath- ered more than 530 co-sponsors, far more than any other freshman Member of Con- gress. In 1979, when she was six months old, her family fled communist-controlled Vietnam. She went on to become a nation- al security specialist for the Department of Defense, a businesswoman and a professor. When she shared her story at an FSPAC board dinner in October 2017, she spoke with conviction about the importance of her fraternal experience. Federal law requires the Fraternity and Sorority PAC to use its best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and employer for each individual whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year. Funds received in response to this solicitation will be subject to federal contribution limits and source prohibitions. Contributions are limited by law to $5,000 per year from any individual or PAC, and contributions from corporations, labor unions, federal contractors, and foreign nationals are prohibited.
