The main goal of this remodel was to open up the ground floor of
the home, adding light, air, and space. Designer Mary Ellen Lynch
was able to add 6 feet of length to the room while working around
an existing stairway. White Shaker-style cabinets, modern
faucets and fixtures, and an asymmetric skylight and tile pattern
bring a clean, contemporary feel to the room. –A.H.

The key to lightening up this previously cramped, dark kitchen was
tearing down a wall separating the space from the dining area,
flooding the room with natural light, and allowing interaction
between hosts and guests. Drop ceilings were removed, but a small
header around the perimeter remains to help define the space.
White cabinets and countertops further brighten the kitchen. —K.T.

To create their clients' dream kitchen tailored to a large family, the
designers began by incorporating distinct separation between the
kitchen and the formal dining room. The cooking area includes an
oversized, custom stainless steel hood, an induction burner, a
stainless backsplash and countertop, and polished nickel cabinets.
Floor-to-ceiling pantries conceal a structural post in the center of
the room while separating the kitchen from the family room. —N.F.M.
