How do you design an outdoor kitchen
that is protected from every-which-
way rain and takes in the spectacular
views – but doesn't detract from them?
Make that kitchen and integral part of
the home's architecture.
Physically, the outdoor living space of
the Seattle home fits perfectly between
the main house and the guest house,
with the kitchen nestled under the
overhang of the secondary structure.
Window walls provide a seamless
connection to the indoor kitchen, with
the floor and ceiling plane and materials
extending from inside to out. The out-
door kitchen's stainless steel cabinetry
was not only a must for the environment
but also has an industrial edge that
complements the home's architecture,
including Corten steel-look porcelain
tile siding and the professional-style
main kitchen. —K.T.
