THETA CHI PAGE 3 Extending a Helping Hand Tau Chapter Increases Philanthropic Endeavors A s we prepare for the new semester, the executive board is looking to pick up where we left off last semester by increasing our philanthropic efforts. The past few months have been highlighted with great academic success, our Fall philanthropy, a busy Fall recruitment, service projects, an alumni tailgate, and another successful Fall intramural season. The Spring semester will prove to be just as successful as we continue achieving our goals. Tau Chapter Retains Top 10 Academic Status This past Fall, the Chapter finished with the seventh best cumulative GPA on campus. This Spring we aim to maintain our momentum and continue our standards of excellence. Additionally, four brothers were tapped into Florida Blue Key: Nick Anderson '14, Chase Mallory '14, Ross Hughes '14, and Jon Nickas '15. We are proud of our brothers and their outstanding achieve- ments as representatives of Theta Chi. Brothers Initiate 35 Members During Fall 2017 recruitment, we extended 60 bids and had 53 accept. Even though recruitment was delayed multiple times due to Hurricane Irma, the brotherhood responded well and remained accountable throughout the process. The pledge class finished with 35 initiated members after Marshal Evan Johns '16 oversaw a strong education program. Members Collaborate in Philanthropic Efforts We concluded football season with our second annual Theta Chi Tsunami Talent Show in honor of fallen brother Kyle Schuemann '01. National representative, James McGuire '16, attended the event and witnessed Tau Chapter's dedication to this event. All proceeds go toward the Kyle Fredrik Schuemann Scholarship. The Chapter also aims to promote collaboration with the entire Greek community to lend an assisting hand. We paired with the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega in a service project to clean and restore a local graveyard in Gainesville. We had more than 100 at- tendees and, over the course of a couple hours, we were able to clean majority of the property. We also look forward to co-sponsoring an event with the gentlemen of Alpha Phi Alpha in their annual Golden Night of Unity, which is a clothing and food drive to benefit the homeless in Gainesville. Building Brotherly Bonds Our Fall alumni tailgates were a great success as we had many brothers from across generations attend. We hosted a dinner the night before and gave small tours of the Chapter House to families and friends of alumni. As always, Tau Chapter thanks our alumni for your selfless efforts in build- ing this brotherhood into the strong group we are today. We are looking forward to Parent's Week- end in the Spring, and invite alumni to visit us whenever they pass by Gainesville.
