Winter 2018 TAU TALES kualphadeltapi.com Missing out on home-cooked meals can be one of the biggest adjustments to university life. But for Tau sisters, Chef Josh Martin fills that void with fresh, healthful meals mixed with a personal touch. With extensive experience in fine dining as well as a stint as production chef at Lawrence's famous Burger Stand, Chef Josh leverages his culinary background to cook up a unique menu of favorites the women love. "Hands down, pad thai is the most requested menu item. Chicken salad with naan is a close second," Josh said. "By far, these are two of the most popular recipes I give to the seniors when they graduate." He also sprinkles in a little something unexpected. "It's fun to surprise the women. Like three years ago, when I ordered the ice cream truck," he said of arranging for an ice cream truck to make a special stop at the Chapter House during finals week. "Recently we had a gingerbread house build-off. I had the best time being the master of ceremonies." Whether it's creating like-home meals for the women of Tau or overseeing his kitchen helpers, Chef Josh has created a recipe for success. "I love working around younger people," he said. "I cherish the opportunity to have a small place in their life and hope they look back fondly on this time as they go out into the world." Tau Chef Josh Martin Serves a Taste of Home Sisters present their gingerbread house with Chef Josh Martin, who acted as master of ceremonies for the chapter's gingerbread build-off. Only one year after law school, Alyssa Aude Bernard '06 started working as an in-house attorney for a large asset management company, working with the mutual funds' boards of directors. During this time, she also obtained an Investments Certificate from the KU School of Business. At her first job in the asset management industry, she led the restructuring of one of the biggest responsibilities of the investment advisor—producing 1,000-plus pages of materials for the annual advisory contract renewal process. Alyssa was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to law school and graduated magna cum laude. She served as the managing editor for the Michigan State Law Review, president of the Federalist Society, and Chambers Intern to the Honorable David McKeague on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Alyssa balances ADPi volunteer positions, co- manages her husband's technology consulting business, and raises her 1-year-old son. She recently led the planning for Tau Building Association's Azure Blue Gala, a fundraiser benefitting the major façade and grounds changes that took place over the summer of 2017. Adelphean Magazine Honors Alyssa Aude Bernard '06 as "30 Under 30"
