Kappa Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta at Florida State University • Spring 2018 Always Think of KD Capital Campaign Gifts Make Kitchen Renovation a Reality Greek Life Suspension Drives New Greek Culture K appa Alpha is hard at work preparing for another busy year! Our capital campaign, Ensuring a Tradition of Excellence: The Vision for Kappa Alpha's Future, is moving full speed ahead and we are excited to begin some projects this year. KITCHEN RENOVATION TO BEGIN THIS SUMMER Updating the Chapter House to accommodate a growing Chapter is no small feat, and right now we are focused on renovating the kitchen. Over Christmas break, the outside coolers were relocated and leveled on our KΔ property. On February 1, outside construction work began on the Copeland Street side of our 63-year-old kitchen. Minor work will take place over spring break to prepare for the summer construction. Once the women have moved out and Landis, our house director, has secured the house for the summer, inside construction will begin the week of May 7. Summer construction on the kitchen will be complete by July 20 to allow the house to be put back together before our 65 members move in for the fall semester. We look forward to updating you on the kitchen's progress over the summer. NEARING OUR $1 MILLION CAMPAIGN GOAL To date, we have raised $640,643 toward our $1 million goal—amazing progress. The gifts from 146 of our sisters are making the kitchen renovation a reality. However, the kitchen is just one project on our long list. We must raise our full $1 million goal to make all of our projects a reality. To see your gift put to work updating our Kappa Alpha home, please use the enclosed pledge form to make a contribution today. GREEK LIFE SUSPENSION UPDATE As many of you are aware, in early November, FSU President John Thrasher issued an "indefinite, interim suspension" on Greek life due to a series of risk management issues, including the death of a fraternity member. Early in December, there was an update to permit specified activities, which must be approved by university staff and have a local advisor present. Thankfully, Kappa Alpha received permission to engage in "normal business practices," and normal operations, repairs, and construction are moving forward as planned. Thanks to successful collaboration between students, advisors and FSU officials, President Thrasher announced on January 29 to further allow and accept Greek activities in a plan that will advance FSU's goals of a healthier campus community. FSU continues to work toward a new Greek life culture and eventual complete resumption of activities. This period has allowed our Chapter to place an emphasis on sisterhood, focusing on the simple acts of sharing a meal or studying with each other. Now, more than ever, the Chapter needs your support. As the oldest sorority on campus, we know our sisterhood is timeless and you are an essential part of that.
