Not a licensed contractor Quartzsite Quilters donation If you have never seen the beauti- ful work a bunch of ladies can do you need to visit the Quartzsite Quilters. These ladies are amaz- ingly talented and have made a wonderful donation to the new Carol's Closet. They have donated both children's and adult size quilts to be given out to folks that are needy and need something beauti- ful and warm to wrap up in. Sharing their talent and their love will help many who will be coming through the new Closet. It was a dream of Carol Kelley which she never lived to see happen. With the County letting us utilize the building, which is located next to the Carol's Cupboard food bank, the passion of Maggie Ross and many volunteers, this dream will become a reality very soon. I wish to thank all of you for the wonder- ful donation that you have made. Jason Moore Carol's Cupboard, Administrator DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE ISAIAH 58 PROJECT? To some it's a church. To others it's a refuge, but it's a very impor- tant service whose base of opera- tion is in Quartzsite, Arizona. Yes, it's faith based, but people don't have to participate in any religious activity to receive what they offer. You may not have been aware that from November 1 to March 31 they serve evening meals for free, Mon- day through Saturday 4:30pm- 6pm, Sundays from 4:30pm to 5:30 pm, to the hungry that come to their facility. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fri- days, from 9am to noon they have a clothing hut and they give people in need, clothing. On the same days, at the same times, they have a food bank where those same people can get food. And Mon- day through Friday, 9am to noon, people can shower for free. Who are the people served by Isaiah's as it's referred to? It can be anyone in need, and with an east/west freeway and a north/ south highway running through town, families whose cars break down or run out of gas, worn out travelers, and people in all sorts of predicaments have a place to receive assistance. If you didn't know these people they may make you feel uneasy, but talking to the volunteers who work the food line, the vast majority of people coming in for aid are appreciative, kind, respectful, humble and willing to assist. One thing to note here, Isaiah's does not receive grant money. They provide what they have through donations. Grant applica- tions take staff and have strings attached and Isaiah's doesn't want to be tied to any government bu- reaucracy. Normally, Isaiah's can manage with the support of the town folks and the numerous charities in the town but just 4 weeks ago, they suffered a drain problem from their kitchen that is causing a tremen- dous outlay of capital to make the repairs. This is the worst time of the year to have to shut its kitchen as they serve about 150 meals daily during the Pow-Wow and while the big tent is up. There is a build up in the numbers in December and it starts slowing down in March but the number of meals served and the number of clients assisted can be in the 100's. So now the challenge is, how can this tragedy be minimized? Per- sonal donations would go a long way; donations by clubs, churches, and other organizations would re- ally help. I'm certain if the people of Quartzsite become aware of the need their charitable side will kick in. Please spread the word, donate what you can afford, and let oth- ers know about Isaiah's plight. It's their turn to get a helping hand. Frank Oulman Quartzsite
