4 Yell Like Hell participants excited for their second cuts performance. EPSILON CHAPTER INITIATES 26 NEW MEMBERS, RECEIVES SECOND PLACE FOR HOMECOMING EFFORTS I t is always incredible to reflect on how quickly the semester flies by—and what an amazing semester it has been for the Epsilon Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon. It is with great pleasure that I share with you the many spectacular achievements the Chapter has seen this semester. SCREAMS FOR ST. JUDE On October 13, Epsilon Chapter unveiled our newest philanthropy, Screams for St. Jude. Led by our philanthropy chairmen, Sam Jorgensen '15 E-2240 and Zach Buerger '16 E-2271, the men transformed the Chapter facility into a haunted house for a night. Visitors paid $5 to experience a variety of scares while weaving their way through cramped rooms and dark hallways. For an inaugural event it was wildly successful, attracting more than 300 visitors and bringing in $2,400 for the children of St. Jude. We were ecstatic to see such a great turnout our first year, and ideas are already flowing to build upon the event for next year. HOMECOMING During the week of October 22, Tekes competed alongside the women of Alpha Chi Omega and the men of Theta Xi in a variety of tournaments and competitions. After weeks of Yell Like Hell practices, lawn display construction, and pop tab collection, the team put forward a strong performance. Yell Like Hell handily passed first cuts, winning the squad a painted performance during second cuts. Our banner display won third place, and the countless hours spent working in New Addition and on the front lawn earned the team a first place lawn display finish! The team was awarded second place in Homecoming overall for our efforts. Without a doubt, this is thanks to the efforts of our Homecoming chairmen, Kyle Bavender '13 E-2178 and Conor Goerg '16 E-2283; our lawn display chairmen, Ben Bruggeman '15 E-2241 and Jack Underwood '16 E-2275; our Yell Like Hell chairmen, Romon Thach '15 E-2244 and Leo Bormann '15 E-2242; and our Homecoming service chairman, Mark Deutsch '15 E-2294. INITIATION On November 3, Epsilon Chapter initiated its most recent new member class, consisting of 26 men from across the Midwest. The men are pursuing degrees in engineering, business, agriculture, and human sciences, and many have already taken leadership roles in the Chapter, including histor, grammateus, service chairman, and purchasing coordinator. The class was recruited by Noah Gratias '15 E-2234, Nolan Vollstedt '15 E-2250, Conor Goerg '16 E-2283, and Kyler Estenson '16 E-2287; Luke Peters '15 E-2236 was their hegemon. We look forward to impact the new men will have on our Chapter! INSTALLATION On December 6, we held the installation ceremony for the 2018 cabinet, which comprises the following men: Prytanis Zach Woodbeck '15 E-2239 Epiprytanis Sam Jorgensen '15 E-2240 Hypophetes Nate Leon '16 E-2296 Hegemon Zach Trochlil '16 E-2285 Pylortes Isaiah McNamee '15 E-2246 Crysophylos Cameron Johnson '16 E-2274 Grammateus Ryne Sandry '16 E-2300 Histor Mason Ohnemus '17 E-2304 Recruitment Chairmen Conor Goerg '16 E-2283 and Grant Marek '15 E-2247 I have the utmost faith these men will constantly challenge the status quo, and I am excited to see all we will accomplish under their leadership. In the space I have to share with you here, it is impossible to highlight every member who deserves to be recognized. With every endeavor the Chapter pursues, there are men who devote countless hours behind the scenes to ensure we put forth our best effort always. This has made leading this Chapter an absolute joy: for every bar that is set, the men rise up to surpass it tenfold. With my term now over, I would like to issue one final thank-you to all the alumni Epsilon Tekes who helped build this Chapter into what it is today. Without your devotion and character, Epsilon Chapter would not be experiencing the prosperity it presently enjoys. You are true role models for the undergraduate members, and we are sincerely grateful for your support and guidance. Yours in the Bond, Tom Scallon '14 E-2220 (515) 360 4964 tscallon@iastate.edu The undergraduate members used the Mom's Club fund to deck out the front of the house with lights, showing our holiday spirit.
