"We fi nished number 3 in the region be- hind two larger private schools. I feel like we really came together at the end of the season and we had quite a few players recognized at the regional level." The Salome High School Fighting Frogs Football Team did an amaz- ing job and made it to the second round of playoffs despite the fact they had such a small team. "The beginning of the sea- son was really rough; we had a lot of young kids, but the leadership of Oscar Cruz and Jose Armenta really pushed us into a very explosive offense and a defense that people really didn't want to see. We tack- led everybody low and hard and we gained the respect of every team that we played," said Head Coach Bryan McCarty. "I would defi nitely call this season a big success and hope that we can leapfrog off of it and have an even more successful season next year. We had a lot of kids make all-region fi rst team, sec- ond team, and honorable mention which goes to show that Salome is defi nitely representing." Thanksgiving break was Novem- ber 22nd-26th here at SHS. Salome High School student, Connie said, "Thanksgiving break was needed, even though I worked most of the time, but I'm looking forward to that check, so I can go Christmas shopping!" Some students said they went away for Thanksgiving break to visit family members and others stayed home and had family mem- bers visiting them. Although we just got back from a small break, a lot of students are already talking about Christmas break! Before we go on Christmas break, we will be taking fi nals, which will begin December 19th and end December 22nd. The break will be from December 23rd through January 7th. Quite a few students have been saying that they are going north for the snow! Oscar Cruz said, "I'm going up north to go elk hunting." High school students always look forward to Christmas break, everyone gets a couple weeks off and it also means we only have half a year of school left! Salome High School Basketball has begun. Although the boys lost their fi rst home game on November 20th against San Pasqual, it was a close match. The score was Salome: 42 and San Pasqual: 55. After los- ing again against Tonopah (55-71) on November 29, the team is prepared to work harder than ever to win their up- coming games. We wish the best of luck to Coach Clough and Salome's Fight- ing Frogs. The Varsity girls have had a similarly rough start, los- ing their fi rst two games 36-31 and 19-27 respectively. The JV girls have had a better start, win- ning their fi rst two games by two points each time. Congratulations to them on a great start to their new season. In spite of the other rough starts, both the boys and the girls have plenty of games to get back into the swing of things. Besides the girls trip to the Wicken- burg Cage Classic on December 8th and 9th, both the boys and the girls' teams will play their next few regu- lar season games against the same teams. The next three future games are at home. On December 5th they will be playing Tohono O'Odham, on December 12th they play Mayer, and on the 13th they will be playing against Valley Lutheran. The rest of the December games are as follows: December 15th against Mohave ALC away, December 18th against Antelope at home, and on December 19th they will play Tele- sis away.
