Washington Alpha Delt e A PUBLICATION OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ALUMNI OF ALPHA DELTA PHI • FALL 2017 MANUS MULTAE COR UNUM Washington Chapter and Alumni Association Awarded for Excellence T his September our undergraduate chapter welcomed 29 outstanding pledges, most of whom will graduate in our 2021 centennial year. They are the successors of the chapter that currently holds the highest cumulative GPA of all UW fraternities. Washington Chapter has also won Alpha Delta Phi International's E.O. Blackman Chapter Excellence Award in 2017 and three of the past four years. Finally, the Bubble Bash auction is on April 21, which raised $48,000 for Children's Hospital. Moreover, as an alumni board we have witnessed our undergraduates living the ideals of our fraternity every day, creating the ties that will bind us together for the next 100 years. As alumni, our guidance and support are critical to our chapter continuing on this path, and I encourage your participation in any form. Another feather in the cap of our chapter is winning the 2017 Andrew Onderdonk Alumni Association Excellence Award at the International Convention in August in Minneapolis. While this is a testament to our very strong and active alumni base, special recognition must go to Bob Gilbert '81 for his efforts in maintaining the history and traditions of Alpha Delta Phi. Bob has been instrumental in the continuity of our heritage, which has been enthusiastically embraced by our undergraduate chapter. Fortunately for Alpha Delta Phi International, Bob has been elected the president of the International Board of Governors. As his new role has required him to step down from our chapter alumni board, we are seeking a replacement for Bob's seat. We meet the second Monday each month at the chapter house. If you have interest in serving or sitting in on a board meeting, please contact me. Lastly, please save the date for the Bubble Bash Auction on April 21, and for our Eells Cup golf, and our social event at Sand Point Country Club. We will also be hosting an initiation banquet on Sunday, January 7. Stay tuned for more details regarding the events, and I hope to see you all there. The convention agenda included sessions addressing how men can be part of the solution to end sexual violence, how to spot signs of and symptoms of common mental health disorders, and how to demonstrate courageous leadership to confront hazing. Undergraduates face different and, in many ways, much more challenging issues than we did as students. Our leadership programming is designed to address these issues. The convention culminated with a dual celebration of the 185th anniversary of the Fraternity and the 125th anniversary of the Minnesota Chapter at the McNamara Alumni Center. We will continue to focus our programming this year on the following themes: philanthropy, Literary Day, budgeting and financial management, sexual assault awareness, mental health, risk management, anti-hazing, and rituals and traditions. The International Fraternity will be delivering these programs at the President's Leadership Summit in Baltimore in January and the annual Convention in Denver in August. Our chapter service consultant will provide additional support during his annual visit. A key point of emphasis this year will be the enhancement of our risk management policy, procedures, and training. Board of Governor Stephen Eggerman '82 will lead this initiative. If you are interested in learning more about the programming provided by the International Fraternity, please visit our website at www.alphadeltaphi. org or contact Executive Director Steve Ehrfurth '09 at steve.ehrfurth@ alphadeltaphi.org.
