Sighs of Psi PSI CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA EPSILON AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA t FALL 2017 INSIDE: Chapter Highlights • 1-2 Alumni News • 3, 6 From the Historian • 4-5 CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS Psi's Exhibition of Merit and Leadership Actives Involved, Focused on and off Campus G reetings parents, alumni, and active members. The river is rising, which means it's once again time for Dr. Psi to write to you in this semester's installment of Sighs of Psi. Last column, I was proud to report Psi's excellent academic performance when compared to other Greek letter organizations at the University of Alabama. This semester, DKE remains one of the most academically-inclined fraternities on campus, sporting a 3.16 average GPA for all active members and placing in the top third of the entire Interfraternity Council for the spring 2017 semester. Not only has Psi succeeded academically, but we have also led the community in philanthropic endeavors. Last spring, the DKE raised money to benefit Camille Place, an organization committed to rescuing children who have been victims of human trafficking across the world. In addition, when tragedy struck Texas earlier this fall, Psi rose to the occasion by hosting the Tide Together for Texas Cookout. This event raised money for the American Red Cross in an effort to aid disaster relief after Hurricane Harvey. Being one of the largest fraternities on campus, many wondered how DKE membership could possibly continue to grow. This year, however, we have taken on the largest pledge class in Psi history. Our 53 new members hail from across the entire southeast and represent the most elite prospects from the University of Alabama freshmen class. They remain hard at work learning the vast history of our organization, and we look forward to having them join the fold as initiated members. With football season well underway, the DKE house has had the pleasure of hosting band parties and tailgates for Alabama gamedays. We are always happy to see alumni at the house cheering on the Crimson Tide. We encourage DKEs from other universities to reach out to us for some beer and banter should they ever find themselves in Tuscaloosa on gameday. DKE continues to play a strong leadership role around campus. Psi has many members serving in leadership positions for organizations such as Student Government Association, the Interfraternity Council, and Order of Omega Inter-Greek Honor Society. We take pride in our ability to help shape the university outside of our own chapter. As usual, none can compete with Psi's athletic prowess in the world of intramural sports. After going undefeated in the regular season and winning the league championship, DKE's Slightly Aged Bullz prepare to dominate another season in intramural basketball. The DKE house will field two dodgeball teams to take on the rest of the IFC. We expect our intramural athletes to continue to produce results that rival those of the Crimson Tide football team. With such great achievement this semester, one might imagine that there is little room for improvement; however, we happen to be fond of saying, "it's never over," and look forward to improving on DKE's reputation as one of the top fraternities at the University of Alabama.
