page 2 G rowing up an athlete, it's no surprise that Woodie Fox '68 can still remember how it felt to be named intramural champions in 1968. As a track letterman, Woodie spent his collegiate years running hurdles for the university and representing SigEp on the intramural fields. "We did a lot of good things. SigEp was a great place to be together and help each other," he said. Outside of intramurals, SigEp brothers also helped each other succeed in the classroom and in life. Woodie encourages current undergraduates to take advantage of the contacts they will make in school and to be involved as much as possible. "You never know what contacts you make can help you along the way or if you can help them," he said. "Be involved so you get to know people." A few summers ago, Woodie visited the chapter house and was able to tour the facility despite being in a wheelchair after suffering from a stroke. "It's exciting that SigEp bought this property and made it into a home," he said. "It looks pretty neat to me and is wheelchair accessible, which is nice for older alumni. I was impressed with how the architects were able to make a church into a house." Throughout the years, Woodie has stayed involved with the chapter by meeting up with alumni from his era, donating money, and through the friendship of John Kapusky '69. "Take the time to come back and visit," he advises alumni who have lost touch with the chapter. "Many alumni were mad when the house burnt down and the chapter was experiencing problems, but so many come back and see what is happening and that we have a good chapter with nice house." Starting his sophomore year, Woodie worked at a camp through the university and developed an interest in working with children. Upon graduation, he taught elementary physical education in Indianapolis. Nearly 10 years ago, Woodie was inducted into his high school's hall of fame for hurdles. Woodie lives in New Palestine, Ind., and can be reached at woody.fox@comcast.net.
