page 2 The Carnation Chronicle A Successful Recruitment Brings in 75 New Members Gamma Iota Continues to Lead on Campus F rom recruitment to Bid Day and sisterhood events to service projects, the Gamma Iota Chapter has had a full start to the semester. Although the Florida weather hasn't been nice to us with Hurricane Irma, the sisters have managed to successfully kick off the 2017-18 school year. This fall we received exciting academic news, we amped up our sisterhood events, and we hosted alumnae and parents at the house, so I must say it has been quite the eventful semester. We received the incredible news that we jumped in the rankings from No. 14 out of 17 to No. 4 with a GPA of 3.536. We are so proud of our members and I cannot wait to see them keep up all the great work. Our annual philanthropy event, Alpha Chi Omega Purple Rain, was scheduled for the same weekend that Hurricane Irma hit Florida, so we unfortunately had to cancel the event and reschedule to the spring semester. Although we could not have our event, we were able to pass out boxes to chapters in the Greek community and collect donations in an effort to support those affected by the hurricane. This year's recruitment was a success and we are so happy to have initiated 75 beautiful and dedicated members into our sisterhood. Gamma Iota's semester has been full of fun activities. We went to a trampoline park for our sisterhood retreat, traveled to Top Golf on a destination unknown date function, spent Homecoming week with our paired fraternity, volunteered at an elementary school carnival, and rented out a movie theater just for our sisters as a KROM event. As usual, Gamma Iota has sisters involved all over campus. We have Florida Cicerones, Campus Diplomats, a manager, assistant directors, captains, and Emerging Leaders for Dance Marathon. Our sisters can also be seen teaching RecSports workout classes, helping with Student Government elections, and volunteering at UF Health Shands. This semester we had two special events at our house. The first invited alumnae for a tailgate before the Gator game where our sisters got to meet some of our incredible alumnae before a Gator win! We are so thankful for the support of our alumnae and I am so grateful for all the women who stopped by the house. The second event was our family weekend. The Alpha Chi house was full of families and the weekend was packed with great events. In the fall, Alpha Chi participates in tennis, volleyball, and flag football intramural games. Our sisters always love participating in intramurals and I hate to brag, but they're always No. 1! Overall, this semester has been a great success. We are so happy to be developing relationships with our campus and within our chapter and we are so thankful to have such supportive parents and alumnae. As always, we love to see alumnae around the house and we hope to see more of you around next semester. This year has surly flown by, but as we wrap up 2017 I know that with sisters like these, 2018 will be just as great.
