LOCAL MUSIC SCENE The Gin Blossoms aren’t the only ones rocking the park this Dogwood Festival. Local and regional acts will take to the Budlight Stage on Saturday and Sunday. “Keeping the grassroots-type of bands, blended seamlessly with the national acts, brings nothing but the best in sound,” says Russell Hein, entertainment chairman for the 2010 Fayetteville Dogwood Festival. Singer Summer Collins will kick things off by performing the national anthem. Summer may only be 14, but she has been singing since the age of 12 when she recorded her first demo. She will be followed by acts like Dakota Rain, on track to make its Dogwood debut country performance, and hard- hitting bands such as On Tap and Still Rockin. Chris Hurst is a festival favorite who will return to the stage Sunday afternoon, wrapping up a weekend jam-packed with the best tunes. On Tap was formed in Fayetteville seven years ago at a neighborhood jam. The band is composed entirely of active- duty and retired military members (and one of their spouses). Together, they cover everything and everybody from Mellencamp to Billy Idol. On Sunday, it’s all about the blues with Hurst, a staple on the Fayetteville music scene. Hurst blends timeless covers with original material. For a complete lineup of this year’s festival entertainment visit faydogwoodfestival.com.CV CityViewNC.com | 43
