Epsilon Beta's Current Situation G reek life at CSU is booming and the student population at the university is growing. Student enrollment at CSU has grown from an enrollment of 23,000 in fall 2000 to over 33,400 in fall 2017. Fort Collins is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and the new on-campus stadium is sure to bring added numbers to the CSU campus. Epsilon Beta's chapter size grew at a modest level for most of our first 50 years. However, the past 10 years have seen an unprecedented growth in chapter membership. The chapter has almost doubled in size over the past six years. In the fall of 2017, the new member class was 76, the largest in our history! While our home at 729 S. Shields Street is updated and beautiful, it has become clear we must make a major long-term investment in modifying the service capacity of the building. House Board cannot adequately feed or provide meeting space sufficient to accommodate these large chapter numbers. House Board, Advisory Board, and the active chapter members all see the need for bigger dining and meeting space. If we wish to remain competitive among the other sororities, ensure a quality living environment, and provide our collegiate sisters with quality Kappa experiences similar to what we enjoyed, it is time to expand! • The kitchen is circa 1956. It has never been renovated and, while appliances have been replaced on an as-needed basis, the production capacity has not been materially increased. The kitchen was built to accommodate formal dining for no more than 70 members. • There is not enough room in the dining room for the entire chapter to have a meal together (formal or informal). Unfortunately, the relationship building experience of a chapter-wide shared Monday night formal meal has been modified. Currently, only 80 women are allowed to sign up each week to have a semiformal dinner at the house on Monday nights. The rest of the chapter must have Monday night dinner on their own. The resultant impact on camaraderie and sisterhood is a material concern of House Board and the chapter leadership. • Fire code and space limitations also prevent chapter meetings at the Kappa house. Currently, the chapter holds Monday night meetings at the Lory Student Center. • Initiation and other Kappa rituals have had to be drastically changed due to space limitations. Last year, Initiation was done in three rounds, impacting this momentous experience. • Participation in some Kappa events has also been limited because of the space restrictions of our current chapter home. " " "Several years ago there was a weekend reunion of Kappas at the house and it hit me, as we sat in the living room singing together, the depth of my love for this sisterhood and the amazing impact on my life. So many priceless memories full of love, laughter, and opportunities to support and learn from each other. What a gift!" - Michele Girault 1976
