p. 3 Phi DelTa TheTa Phi Delts Calling the Shots in DePauw Athletics ALUMNI UPDATE CHAPTER GRAND William "Bill" D. Connolly '47 entered Chapter Grand on June 27, 2016, as a resident of Stuart, Fla., at the age of 91. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He started his career in advertising with NBC radio and in 1972 assumed the role of vice president of marketing for First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Martin County. Bill was an active member of the Stuart community for 44 years. In 1974, he was appointed as Martin County chairman for the National Bicentennial celebration and served on the board of trustees for the Historical Society of Martin County for more than 15 years. Stephen D. Morrison '63 entered Chapter Grand on October 13, 2016, at the age of 75. He and his wife of 53 years lived in Attica, Ind., where Stephen was an attorney. He is survived by his wife, Carol Parks Morrison, and his children, Amy Gerard, Eric Morrison, and Ellen Townsend. Frank Lennox '65 entered Chapter Grand on August 10, 2017. Frank was 74 and born in Highland Park, Ill. Early on in his career with Bechtel Power and Bechtel Telecommunications, he visited many countries around the world, including the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Douglas "Doug" Pirtle '77 entered Chapter Grand on January 17, 2017, as a resident of Fort Myers, Fla., at the age of 62. While in college he was considered one of the nation's most outstanding punters and the only DePauw football player to be all-conference for all four years. Doug was the younger brother of David "Jay" Pirtle '79, who passed away in 2015. Doug and his wife, Shelley, lived in Carmel, Ind., for 20 years before relocating to Fort Myers, Fla. Doug was a small business owner and active community volunteer, particularly with nonprofit youth sports organizations. He enjoyed golfing, having fun with friends, and spending time with family. He will be missed. Arnold "Arnie" H. Fritz '81 entered Chapter Grand on October 2, 2016, at the age of 57, as a resident of Paradise Valley, Ariz. Arnie's life was dedicated to defending and supporting those less fortunate, first as a counselor and then as an attorney. He was an accomplished photographer, a wine connoisseur, a music lover, and a genuine Minnesota Vikings fanatic. He passionately loved his family. His sense of humor, generosity, and kindness will be greatly missed. ALUMNI UPDATE John Olcott '47 lives in an assisted living facility in Pennsville, N.J. He is currently having breathing and back problems. He is very well served by his son, Bradford, and his daughter-in-law, Rachel. He is still an active diver, but on a limited basis. E-mail: johnolcott105@comcast.net Val Price Jr. '50 is retired from Illinois Bell as a district manager. He resides in Western Springs, Ill., with his wife, Kathryn. His grandson, Evan Val Price, has pledged to Phi Delta Theta at Indiana University. David Stockwell '54 greets all 1954 graduates and earlier. Dave and his wife, Elinor, live in Evanston, Ill. They frequent symphonies, opera, and whatever theater strikes their fancy. Their daughter, Chris, and her husband help transport them as needed. He and a friend meet Fridays for a liquid lunch and extend their invitation to whoever would like to join. He would love to hear from his pledge brothers or anyone else from DePauw. Dale Bracey '57 regrets he had to miss alumni weekend in 2017, but was attending his granddaughter's graduation in Nevada. Dale retired in 2002 after being a Presbyterian minister. He resides in Los Gatos, Calif. E-mail: dalebracey@mac.com D. Gary Klempnauer '57 "still has all his buttons, two cats and a dog." He has stepped back from working with the homeless shelters in Columbus. He and his wife, Nan, are traveling and strolling in the parks and neighborhoods. Gary also spends his time reading and laughing with his distant grandchildren. He is in good spirits but using a cane at the behest of his daughters.
