2 THE DRAGON'S WAGON Undergraduates Set the Bar High for Recruitment, Academics, and Community Service L ast semester, Gamma Psi Chapter reached 99 members during spring recruitment. We only had a handful of members who graduated in May, so we expect to increase our numbers to more than 100 members for fall. It's truly a monumental sight to see all 99 of us in one chapter room. Even though we have one of the biggest chapter sizes on campus, each of us knows one another on a personal level. That's what being a Beta is about at Michigan State! We continue to thrive in academics. We've been in the top two for highest GPA for five consecutive years with a 3.28. We had a successful second annual Beta Beach Day in September. Our philanthropy proudly represents Stiggy's Dogs, an organization that rescues and trains shelter dogs to be psychiatric service aids for military veterans suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. Beta Beach Day included a plethora of water activities in front of our house featuring a slip n' slide and a 20- foot water obstacle course. The Gamma Psi Chapter expects all members to complete a minimum of 10 community service hours by the end of each semester, which shows how our undergraduates develop into valuable leaders by giving back to the community. This past academic year, we completed a combined total of more than 1,000 community service hours. A few of the volunteer activities include spaghetti dinners for the homeless, supporting other philanthropic events on campus, cleaning up Lansing parks, and furthering the success of our own philanthropy. I have confidence in our chapter's success as we face a pivotal year for Gamma Psi. With almost 40 brothers graduating in spring 2018, we are focused on guiding the younger members into leadership roles, giving them a head start at furthering the success of our chapter. I look forward to leading this chapter for another semester and seeing what great things we can accomplish together.
