By HerbMama First, what IS a genetically modi- fied organism: A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. Because this involves the transfer of genes, GMOs are also known as "transgenic" organisms. Monsanto started this, trying to control the world's food supply, from recent news articles it looks like Bayer (same ones who do the aspirin, yes) has tried to buy Mon- santo! The first GMO was planted in 1996!! There are 3 types of toxins in GMO's... The first is BT toxin. It is in corn, soy & cotton mainly. So anything that contains these 3 has this toxin in it! It was engineered to con- stantly reproduce toxins. The bug eats the corn, for example, and it's stomach explodes. It is a registered pesticide. Thing is, the bugs are getting smarter, so it takes more of these poisons to kill them! The 2nd toxin is called Round-Up Ready. The plant is genetically en- gineered to withstand the round-up pesticide and nearly 5 billion lbs/yr is sprayed on our food with this poison. Now everything dies from this, except the food!!
