OCT. 5 Town of Quartzsite invites every- one to attend the next meeting of Neighborhood Watch at 6:00 PM, on THURSDAY, OCT. 5, 2017, at the Quartzsite Community Center, 295 E. Chandler. Chief William Ponce said he looks forward to working with the resi- dents to create a safer community. Launched in 1972, Neighbor- hood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their pres- ence at all times of day and night. Sponsored by the National Sher- iffs' Association (NSA), the Nation- al Crime Prevention Council says, "Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the coun- try, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer." The morning disc jockey was Gordon Gordon the chief GG man. He loved the bizarre. In the north east corner of BC, dwelled the Russian Doukhobors. When they rebelled they burned their Church and school. DEADLINE : WED. OCT 11 TH for the oct. 18 th edition Desert Messenger News Email: editor@DesertMessenger.com 928-916-4235 www.DesertMessenger.com On Sunday afternoon, I was listen- ing to Deepak Chopra about how to stay peaceful in a turbulent world. It was diffi cult to hear that even the most peaceful, disciplined leaders are sometimes struggling with main- taining their own inner peace in our chaotic world today. Deepak said, "Humans desire a con- nection with others. Everyone is do- ing the best they can from their level of consciousness." He explained how we're being inundated with so much suffering in the world via the media and the Internet. He spoke about the importance of fi nding our compassion and empathy to share with the world. Then later that night, I witnessed the tragedy in Las Vegas via live feed streaming of a distraught reporter on the scene. My heart went out to her, as she learned the horrifi c de- tails moment by moment. Deepak's simple words helped calm me as I went to sleep, knowing when I woke, the death toll would be un- fathomable. And it was and the hor- rifi c facts are still unfolding today. During these tumultous times, it would be good to focus on the compas- sion and empathy strangers showed during the shooting. We can choose to transform our collective grief and show the world we are a strong na- tion who come together in tragedy. We can also choose to take a stand against violence of any kind- wheth- er it be bullying in our schools, ha- rassment, domestic violence, child abuse, racial injustice, cyberbully- ing, gun violence, workplace bully- ing...and the list goes on. We do this by bringing our best selves to the discussion, not our worst selves. We do this by being strong in our faith, showing love to our fellow human beings. We do this by standing for what is right in the world; by hav- ing an "Attitude of Gratitude" even in the worst of times. We show the world that Americans are a compas- sional people and we will remain to be a strong nation. Don't forget, hugs help a lot, too! "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
