PAGE 2 Theta Chi Adam Sickley '16 Lands Post-Grad Job Through Theta Chi Connections D uring the summer of his junior year, Adam Sickley '16 started working at Principal Global Investors as an asset management analyst. Today, Adam remains with Principal and is thankful for the fraternity connections that helped him secure this position. "Theta Chi helped get me connected to my current job and led to a big part of where I am today," he said. "It gave me leadership experience, and I was able to do things I would not have been able to do with another chapter." Adam developed his leadership skills while serving as recruitment chairman and president for Gamma Tau. Through these positions, he strengthened his teamwork and communication skills and learned how to work with people of different backgrounds from his own. "I loved my experience," he said. "I am great friends with all of the men in my chapter, and Theta Chi has taken me a long way to where I am today." Adam's Theta Chi experience began after playing basketball with a few of the older brothers in the chapter. As a recent graduate, Adam has stayed in touch with brothers and offers active members one piece of advice: "Life is a lot easier when your grades start off well at the beginning of the semester." Adam has been with Principal Global Investors for three and a half years and enjoys playing sports in his free time. He lives in Des Moines, Iowa, and can be reached at adam.sickley@yahoo.com. An Assisting Hand Society Donations Support Gamma Tau T o endow our education foundation and QC Building Corporation, Gamma Tau established An Assisting Hand Society. While the foundation does not pay for recruitment expenses, it does provide scholarships to the undergraduates and new members. Additionally, the foundation covers fees and expenses associated with leadership programs and educational programs at the chapter level. Gifts to the QC Building Corporation provide for debt service and ongoing operational and maintenance costs of the house. As we all know, staying on top is never easy. With united alumni support we can demonstrate our commitment to excellence to the active chapter. A huge thank-you to the brothers below who contributed to An Assisting Hand Society. We are extremely grateful for your support. Please use the enclosed envelope to make your gift to An Assisting Hand Society today. Your help is greatly needed and deeply appreciated! Of course, I'm talking about that weekend back in 1986. This last one was, once again, marred by cold, rain, and more layers than even The Preppy Handbook would have allowed. I'm really not sure it got above 40 degrees. There was one very bright spot during the weekend, though. In addition to the rather large turnout from the brothers from the 1990s, we were able to hang most of the room naming plaques and dedicated the back patio to our brother and advisor, Bob Brodie, Michigan State '61. Bob was Drake's Dean of Students back in the '70s and '80s and into the '90s, and for most of his time at Drake he served as one of the most dedicated chapter advisers our chapter has ever had. Although you'll still see Bob tooling around town, we wanted to memorialize him so that every time COMMITTED ALUMNUS RECOGNIZED AT 2017 RELAYS a brother walked through the back door to the west patio, they would remember that there was a man from another Theta Chi chapter who cared for the fraternity so much that he made our chapter his own. We will always be thankful for Bob's leadership and guidance. Looking ahead, it's not too early to start thinking about Relays 2018. Mark your calendars for Friday and Saturday, April 27-28. I can almost guarantee that it will be warmer than this year, and it will be the year that Drake hosts the All-Greek Reunion—a party to celebrate Drake's long history of Greek involvement and welcoming Greek alumni back to campus. If anyone missed the capital campaign, or finds that they have a little extra QC dollars lying around, we really could use your help to put a few finishing touches on the chapter house in time for the next Relays. The needs run from outdoor Jarod Kimmes '20 at Drake Relays. patio furniture and minor indoor furnishings to storage bins in the basement. We'd also like to build up a little nest egg so that when our elderly neighbors put their house up for sale, we can act quickly. We have always thought it could make a nice Pharmacy House for our fifth- and sixth- year brothers. I would be happy to talk to you privately if you'd like to discuss those needs. Thank you. Fraternally, Tom Rossley '82
