REESTABLISHING BONDS IN THIS SIGN YOU WILL CONQUER Robert Timm '80 Thankful for Brotherhood in Overcoming Challenge F or Robert "Bobby" Timm '80, he felt the brotherly connection was absent in his life. It was then that Barry Matthews '79 introduced Bobby to Epsilon Kappa Chapter. Little did he know that in April of 1977, the daunting task of demonstrating the Chapter's intent and ability to retain its charter lay before the remaining active members: Bill McCuistion '79, Joseph Pollard Sr. '79, Ken Strawn '79, Stanley Bonds '79, Terry Johnson '79, and Bob. They had the help of recent alumnus, David Williams '79, as well as Olin Atkins '57, Forest Norville '57, Earl McClanahan '44, Jerry Buckaloo '55, Al Madison '71, T.J. Pugh '64, and Harry Schuh '65. The bonds of strong brotherhood would become paramount in overcoming this new challenge. "The most difficult time for me was the initial downsize of the Chapter; however, we needed to concentrate on ourselves and build quality membership." Keeping this in mind, Chapter members like Bill McCuistion '80 serving as Quaestor, and Joe Pollard '79 serving as Magister, worked diligently alongside David Williams '79 and Forest Norville '57 to restore their beloved chapter. Without these bonds of brotherhood, the Chapter would have been unable to recruit seven quality men: Randy Dunning '81, Mike Joyner '79, Joey Brent '81, Hal Perry '82, Jon Crisp '79, Sid Vick '77, and Craig Crawford '81. "Sigma Chi taught me how to overcome difficult situations and deal with different types of people. Trust in your Epsilon Kappa brothers and the bonds of loyalty." Subsequently, these bonds shone not only to Sigma Chi Headquarters but the whole University of Memphis Greek community. "Winning Anchor Splash, All Sing, the Homecoming parade, and going to games were amazing experiences. The Greek community knew we had arrived as a contender on campus." Bobby remains a humble, yet driving force behind the preservation of Epsilon Kappa's legacy and thanks Joe Manuszak '83 and Riley Knight '82 for wanting this story to be told and not forgotten. Recently, he, along with his aforementioned brothers, have been honored with the Grand Consul Citation for their dedication to the restoration of the Chapter. "I'm incredibly honored and it should be shared with those that worked so hard for the survival of Epsilon Kappa. In fact, there are many brothers not mentioned who propelled the Chapter forward and, for that, we salute you." Ultimately, people come and go in life. However, Bobby remains resolute in knowing his Sigma Chi brothers will always be beside him. He has been a realtor with Cyre-Leike for 30 years and can be reached at bobtimm@bellsouth.net. The Chapter House was vandalized after Epsilon Kappa won Delta Gamma's Anchor Splash competition in 1977. Sigma Chi taught me how to overcome difficult situations and deal with different types of people. Trust in your Epsilon Kappa brothers and the bonds of loyalty.
