Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., with a quick presentation, followed by lunch, and then kickoff at 2:30 p.m. For those interested, a golf outing is being organized on Friday, September 22. More details to come. We hope to see you there! CHAPTER GRAND Robert R. Rauner '42 entered Chapter Grand on October 9, 2016. He was part owner and secretary of the Dinklage Feed Yard and served on the board of directors of the Sidney National Bank in Sydney, Neb. Bob was actively involved in the Democratic Party, including state chairman of Farmers for Kennedy, area chair for Zorinsky and the National Platform Committee. Merwyn G. French Jr. '47 entered Chapter Grand on February 14. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; four daughters: Stephanie, Juliann, Sheila, and Allison; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He farmed for 10 years in Page, Neb., then became a farm manager and rural appraiser from 1965 to 1997 in Lincoln, Neb. He and Patricia retired to Peoria in 2003. William T. Howard '55 entered Chapter Grand on February 26. He was a resident of Madison, Wis., at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Karen. Walter E. Baumann, M.D. '66 entered Chapter Grand on April 2, 2016. He was in private practice as a urologist, serving Okmulgee for 34 years. Walter enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as whitewater rafting. He was also a talented woodcarver, loved watching NBA basketball, and spending time with his grandkids. Walter is survived by his wife, Lynette; sons, Chris and Seth; three grandchildren; a host of family and friends; and his cat, Cuddles. ALUMNI NEWS Mylon E. Filkins, D.V.M. '59 retired from practice as a large-animal veterinarian in Bakersfield, Calif., in February 2016. He had been a partner in Bakersfield Veterinary Hospitals since 1965, specializing in equine medicine. He and wife, Pat, celebrated their 55th anniversary on July l, They have four children and 10 grandchildren and enjoy returning to their home state of Nebraska (Creighton/Brunswick area) and absolutely delight in attending Husker football games. In 2007, he undertook nine years of ordained ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, retiring in 2016 after leading more than 450 worship services and over 200 Bible studies, every one of which also provided a nutritious meal, all on a budget of $0. "Each week, we gathered a small offering that, by the end of the nine years, had totaled more than $15,000. Every cent went out; everything from earthquake relief in Haiti, to rebuilding typhoon damage in the Philippines, to tornado damage in Joplin, Mo. Yes, homeless folks did that. They care.
