Kappa Alpha Chapter 5 Kappa Alpha Proves Unstoppable Active Chapter Raises over $30,000 for Philanthropy T he 2016-17 school year was an eventful one for Kappa Delta at Florida State University. Our Chapter enjoyed numerous successes, demonstrating the power of strong women who work cooperatively toward a common goal. High Standards for Academic Performance Kappa Alpha maintained high standards for academics during the spring semester. Our cumulative grade point average ranked sixth out of the 17 Panhellenic organizations on campus. We earned a 3.36, compared to the all-Panhellenic GPA of 3.30 and the all-women's GPA of 3.230. Our stellar grades were also recognized by FSU's Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. More than $30,000 Raised for Prevent Child Abuse America We successfully launched KDash After Dark, a fundraising and awareness event supporting Prevent Child Abuse America. Vice President of Community Service Caroline Kauffman '14 planned and executed the 5K glow run event at Cascades Park, which began at dusk and concluded at night. The park was decorated with glow-in-the-dark lights, glow sticks, a DJ booth, and photo tent. Runners wore glow-in-the-dark face paint, shoes, and athletic wear. The event was a huge success and is projected to have raised more than $30,000 for PCAA. Kappa Alpha's year also included various events at our Chapter House to support the Girl Scouts of the USA, tours of the FSU campus for local troops, and decorating holiday cards and cookies for children at the local Children's Home Society. Robust Membership I am pleased to report that Kappa Alpha retained 91 of the 94 women that received our invitation to join last fall. We hosted plenty of activities for our new sisters and are eager for another successful recruitment this fall under the guidance of Vice President of Membership Kate Smith '14. Memorable Events of the Past Year Our Chapter participated in the 2016 Homecoming with the gentlemen of Pi Kappa Alpha and cohosted the third annual Stand Up and Stand Out with Tri Delta and Zeta Tau Alpha in September. Mom's Weekend consisted of a variety of fun activities, including painting and a lovely brunch at our Chapter House. Near the end of the school year, our graduating seniors were celebrated by local Kappa Alpha alumnae with an evening at the Dogwood House, where seniors received their white roses and were inducted as alumnae of the Kappa Alpha Chapter. On behalf of the undergraduate members of Kappa Alpha, thank you to all of our alumnae and parents for your ongoing support. I look forward to a busy, exciting, and successful fall semester for our Chapter. In Love and AOT, Lauren London '14 Chapter President (239) 249-4692 l.london@me.com 1.
