"We want to showcase the beautiful Tehama County area, local land- marks and activities offered at the fairground," Mural Coordinator Debby Sipes said. "We're looking for- ward to this year's fair, hoping to photograph sub- ject matter for our wall. There really is so much to work with." "We also want to incor- porate some of the things that make Tehama special," Sipes said. "Of course that includes for Tehama Dis- trict Fair CEO Mark Eid- man his ferris wheel." The project started out as an idea in 2007 when "Ultimately, we hope that Red Bluff will like the mural so much that they will want to continue see- ing murals painted on walls throughout the communi- ty," Sipes said. "We have so many local artists with the talent and ideas to see this happen. Just look at the murals students of Art teacher Wes Hendricks at Red Bluff High School have done over the years. They're fabulous works of art that could depict our history, our citizens and our everyday life that can adorn our city walls." Artists involved in the 2012 mural work include returning members Sipes, Maxey and Connie Gra- ham along with newcomers Jim Ramey and Roland Lint. "As you can see looking at it, it's a labor of love," Maxey said. "It's giving back to our fair and to our community." Money became avail- able from the California Arts Plate Program, with matching funds from the Tehama County Arts Council, which is funded by a license plate titled "Coastline" designed by pop artist Wayne Thiebaud, Sipes said. Throughout the process, Graham said she chose to do the State Theatre because it is one of the more well known buildings in town. "I liked the colors and it's the first thing you see when you get off the free- way," Graham said. "It's just so well-known." Lint and Sipes are work- ing on the Kelly-Griggs for the same reason, but also because he knew the club needed the help and it was something he could do, he said. "It's like bookends," Sipes said. "We've done the drawings on either end and as ideas come it'll be kind of like a coloring book where we're filling it in."
