Viking Volunteers organize drive to help fire victims Vista Middle School is learning the value of helping others in Tim Howell's Leadership class. The class is designed to give students an opportunity to improve their school and community by organizing and manag- ing community service projects that the students feel are important. To accomplish this, the students formed the "Vista Volunteers," and decided to organize a dona- tion drive to help the victims of the recent fires in the area. Erica Downey who noticed that, "many of the people who lost their homes were just like me, and I felt like we could really help them." This is a 5 mile round-trip loop hike. Much of it is over rough, rocky terrain. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are required for exploring this rugged, vol- canic landscape. Turtle Creek is a minor tributary of the Sacramento River but is rich in biological, geolog- ical, cultural and historic features.
