But in its first league game against Enter- prise, Red Bluff lost 50- 7, with most of the dam- age coming before the fourth quarter. But considering Red Did anyone expect this team to be on the wrong side of a running clock last week? Proba- bly not, considering this By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor The Corning Cardi- nals bounced back in a big way in Week 4 after being shut out by Red Bluff in the Tehama County Shootout. Corning beat Willows 42-14 in its last non- league game before host- ing Lassen at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Cardinals also had a surprise on its stat sheet. It's what opened up isn't the same team from the past two years, either, when its total wins added up to three. Does anyone expect Shasta to overlook the Spartans on Friday? It's plausible. Red Bluff shouldn't count on it, but coming back home for its second league game at 7:30 p.m. Fri- day knowing it needed to bolster most facets of its game could give the Spartans an early advantage. No question, the green and gold can't come out and allow big, momentum-shifting plays (such as the two punt returns for touch- downs the Hornets pulled in Week 3). The offensive line needs to do a better job protecting senior quar- terback Garrett Sandow, who was rushed to throw against Enter- prise, and Sandow needs to click with his receivers again. CORNING HOSTS LASSEN — 7:30 P.M. FRIDAY lost to Chico (3-1) 27-13. Corning hasn't played the Grizzlies since 2009, but has lost its last three meetings with the team since 2007. It just seems in most cases it's always a great game." Friday's game marks both team's league open- ers.
