2A – Daily News – Tuesday, March 30, 2010 Community people&events Local Republican group to hold annual banquet The Tehama County Republican Party is holding the 7th Annual Red, White & Blue fundraising banquet at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 10 at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 735 Oak St., Red Bluff. The featured speaker will be State Sen. Sam Aanes- tad, who will be challenging Sen. Abel Maldonado in the 2010 primary election for lt. governor. Aanestad is the only conservative running for the position. Meet him and hear his plans when he becomes the new lt. gover- nor. The event will include honoring Tehama County Republican of 2009 C. Jerome Crow, who has served Tehama County Republicans for many years and he will be honored for his service to the community. Invited honored guests include Rep. Wally Herger, Assemblyman Jim Nielsen, former Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa, former Assemblyman Rick Keene, Ron Nehring, California Republican Party chairman, and Tom Del Beccaro, party vice-chairman. No host cocktails will start at 5 p.m. and seated din- ner, business attire, will be at 6 p.m. Tickets must be reserved prior to April 7; seating is limited and available on a first come first served basis only; as no tickets will be sold at the door. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 20920 Hampton Rhodes Drive in Red Bluff. Setting it straight Some names were left off the Bronze Honors fifth grade section in Monday’s page 2A Bidwell Honor Roll list. Those students are Megan Beck, Alexan- dria George, Eric Irving, Brandon Marsh and Mason Meadows. An article Monday’s edition about the Tehama County Cattlemen’s Field Day misspelled the name of Foor Ranch. Beef Tenderloin Medallions with Potato Risotto Tehama County CattleWoman member Maudie Gregory’s recipe is for Beef Tenderloin Medallions with Potato Risotto she plans to serve at her next dinner party. 6 6-ounce beef tenderloin steaks (each 3/4 or 1 inch thick) 1 tablespoon butter 1 cup finely chopped onion 1 lb Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled, cut into 1/8 inch thick slices, the 1/8 inch cubes 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper coarse kosher salt 1 1/2 cups or more chicken broth 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese chives thyme 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh 1 1/2 tablespoon chopped fresh 1 tablespoon or more olive oil Melt butter in heavy large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion; cover and cook until soft and translucent, stirring occasionally, about 7 minutes. Add potato cubes and cayenne pepper; sprinkle with coarse salt and pepper. Add 1 1/2 cups chicken broth, bring to boil. Add cream and simmer until pota- toes are tender, but still hold their shape, stirring often, about 10 min- utes. Stir in cheese and chives. Can be made 2 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature. Rewarm over medium heat, stir- ring often. Sprinkle steaks with coarse salt and pepper, then chopped thyme. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in heavy large skillet over medium high heat. Add steaks and cook to desired doneness, adding more oil as need- ed, 3 to 4 minutes per side for medi- um rare. Divide potato risotto among plates. Place steaks on plates and serve. At a recent meeting, Soroptimist International of Red Bluff honored Mag- ali Hernandez from Corn- ing High School, who was presented with the Melanie Rose Kinner girl of merit award. She was accompa- nied by her parents as she accepted the honor. After graduation in June, Her- nandez plans to pursue a career in the medical field. The program for the meeting was presented by Melissa Mendonca, of the Tehama County Mentoring Program, on her six-week experience in Ethiopia and Kenya. She was a part of a Rotary Information Exchange program. Men- donca visited a variety of places that serve some of the poor of these countries through the work of Sorop- timist International and Rotary. The Red Bluff group recently had Rose Hablitzel join the organiza- tion. Hablitzel, an Enrolled Agent, has opened a new office on Elm Street in Red Bluff. This multi-distance walk/run offers a variety of opportunities to enjoy some of the 4.2 miles of trails in the Mendocino National Forest’s Red Bluff Recreation Area. There will be 1K walk/run, 5k walk/run and a 10k Run. Early registration is encouraged, but registra- tion will be available at 7:30 a.m. at the parking lot the day of the run.
