O ur crescent's splendor is increasing! 2017 has been a great year for the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi. Winner of two of the last three E.O. Blackman awards for outstanding chapter, Washington Chapter continued its ascent to our refounding goal of being the preeminent fraternity on the West Coast. In the most recent academic quarter, our undergraduates achieved the highest combined grade point average (3.49) of all fraternities at the University of Washington. Their philanthropic effort was another home run, as the Bubble Bash auction raised more than $45,000 for Children's Hospital's Stanley Stamm Summer Camp in April. And although less measurable, we are also thriving socially on campus and within the Greek system. With these accomplishments, the undergraduates have made a compelling case for our support and investment. We are currently in the early stages of planning for that investment and will keep you apprised of our plans and progress as we move forward. For those interested in becoming involved with the Alumni Board or who are just curious about what is in the works, you can reach out to me or any other board member directly. We remain an active and engaged Alumni Board. However, new perspectives and enthusiasm are welcome and necessary ingredients for our continued success. Consider becoming active on our board. Contact me directly if you are interested. On the topic of success, I want to acknowledge the contributions and accomplishments of my predecessor, Bob Davis '92, in his Washington Alpha Delt e A PUBLICATION OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ALUMNI OF ALPHA DELTA PHI • SPRING 2017 Be Part of the Upward Trend by Volunteering Today WASHINGTON CHAPTER CONTINUES TO THRIVE 10 years of service as president of our alumni association. When he began his tenure, there was no active chapter, and the physical plant was a boarding house. At the end of his term, we have a thriving chapter carrying on the best traditions of the Alpha Delta Phi. So a hearty thank-you to Bob—you are the George Washington of our refounding fathers (minus the wooden teeth). S ince fall 2010, I have been involved with the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the chapter house. My reason, of course, was the acceptance of my son, Tyler '14, into Alpha Delta Phi. My concern was for the condition of the original building and the negative impression of the women's restroom. All, I thought, were valid concerns for an alumnus and father. After three restroom remodels and being on a first-name basis with the plumber (Joel; he had his own parking spot), the great boiler fixer (David), the kitchen supplier, and our floor supplier (Brick), I must admit it is a rewarding endeavor that creates a sense of satisfaction. The finished product is appreciated no matter the lack of detail or color condition, unlike the demanding detail my wife requires. A few interesting items I have found while serving on the house corporation include: • Rescue tape, used for rigging tape on sailboats, can stop leaks in fire sprinkler pipe joints, if wound tight enough. • Don't work on restroom remodels during Greek Week. • It takes six brothers to keep a broken sprinkler head from flooding a hallway.
