SIGMACHI 3 LAMBDA ENDS SPRING SEMESTER STRONG Undergraduates Set High Standards for 2017-18 School Year F rom defeating Beta Theta Pi in Faceoff for the Forces (a lacrosse game benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project) to finishing in seventh place in the Little 500, Sigma Chi ended the academic year on a high note. The men on 7th Street continued to excel in academics and philanthropic work, and we look forward to August and all the success that the 2017-18 school year holds for us. Brothers Awarded for Outstanding Academics In March, Josh Perry (undergraduate chairman at the Kelley School of Business) spoke with brothers at the scholarship banquet on finding happiness in our future careers. More than 50 brothers received scholarships from the Chapter due to their outstanding GPAs. In addition, Nick Wilson '09, Brendan Bogosta '17, and Nijola Rajovic '17 were honored for living up to the Jordan Standard values every day and the Sigma Chi Foundation awarded 11 of our brothers national scholarships. Lambda finished the 2016-17 school year with a 3.1 GPA with the fall 2015 pledge class having the highest average GPA of a 3.4. IU Dance Marathon Raises Millions Sigma Chi was involved with multiple philanthropic organizations, including Indiana University Dance Marathon (IUDM), Faceoff for the Forces, Dropping the Puck on Cancer, Greeks Give Back, and Derby Days. David Luebbe '19 is the VP of internal operations for IUDM and the dance marathon raised $4.1 million for Riley Children's Hospital. Austin Gilmore '18 created the organization Greeks Give Back, which works with Habitat for Humanity. Chapter Prepares for Fall Recruitment This summer, we hope to continue our recruitment efforts by hosting events in Cincinnati, Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis. Our aim is to give approximately 30 to 35 bids to the fall 2017 pledge class. "When looking for candidates, we seek out men who will make a difference in the Chapter and exemplify the Jordan Standard," Recruitment Chairman Henry Konzen '19 said. This spring, we initiated 17 members into Lambda Chapter. Members of the spring pledge class came from all over the country, including California and New Jersey. Lambda Places Seventh in the Little 500 The bike team had another strong year, finishing seventh in the Little 500. The team included Tim Ryan '17, Elliot Cofer '17, David Holtkamp '18, and Dominic Fiore '19. The Chapter was paired with the women of Pi Beta Phi sorority for the week to cheer on our bike team. Last year, our team finished 12th, so we continue to gain momentum in our pursuit of coming in first. Moving forward, we are paired with Chi Omega for the October 14 Homecoming game. If you are in town, feel free to stop by the Chapter House and see the improvements. Alumni Make a Difference at Lambda On behalf of the Chapter, thank you for your support. Please stop by the Chapter House if you are ever in Bloomington. Your contributions go a long way and ensure future success for Sigma Chi. Without you, the Lambda Chapter would not be possible. In Hoc, Robert Abraham '19 Consul rojoabra@indiana.edu The Lambda bike team placed seventh in the Little 500, improving their 2016 ranking of 12th place.
