2 THELAMBDA LETTER Ansley Valentine, Delta Chi '90 Holds Unwavering Commitment to Sigma Chi Alumnus Returns to IU, Serves as Lambda Faculty Advisor "S igma Chi was my first love; it shall be my last," said Isaac M. Jordan, Alpha 1857. For Ansley Valentine, Delta Chi '90, these words hold a certain truth, as he continues to serve Sigma Chi as an alumnus. "I had no idea that my own values would align so perfectly with the Fraternity," he said. "I feel that I received so much from Sigma Chi and Lambda Chapter that I have a lifelong debt to repay." As a graduate student at IU, Ansley served as the Balfour Fellow and graduate advisor for Lambda Chapter. Throughout the years, he has also served on several committees at the International Headquarters and is currently the chairman of the Scobey Spirit Initiative, a program encouraging diversity within Sigma Chi chapters, and heads the recruitment division of the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop. Additionally, Ansley is the faculty advisor for Lambda Chapter. For his dedication to the Fraternity, Ansley has received several Grand Consul Citations, but the highest honor he received was being inducted into the Order of Constantine, one of the most prestigious Sigma Chi awards. "I am most proud of the fact that Sigma Chi helped me become a better man, better connected to the community, and aware of trying to be a force of good in my daily interactions," he said. "Being a Sigma Chi taught me to be more confident, more sure of myself, and to have the ability to connect with people from different walks of life." During his college years, numerous alumni had a positive impact on his university experience, particularly past Grand Consul Dick Hester '77 and Chapter advisor Phil Chambers '80. "Dick has been, and continues to be, a real inspiration to me and the undergraduates. He talks about living our values everyday as a Sigma Chi," Ansley said. "I marvel at Phil's management abilities. He is the perfect example of a servant- leader. He does not do things for his own agenda or to receive accolades, but because he is devoted to providing a positive experience for our brothers." Ansley earned his master's of fine art from Indiana and works as the associate professor of acting and directing for Indiana's Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance. He advises current undergraduates to take full advantage of the leadership and networking opportunities available in the Chapter and encourages any alumni who have lost touch with Sigma Chi to reconnect. "I am very proud of the men in the Chapter. We have our challenges, but I have great faith in the leadership of the Chapter and the brothers are striving to be better every year," he said. "They really do appreciate hearing the perspectives of the alumni out in the working world, old war stories, and about the 'good old days.'"
