As we've seen with Redstone Acts of Brightness, one small, kind gesture can lead to many more down the road. Redstone Federal Credit Union's Charity Finders group is such an example. One Redstone department had an idea to find ways that it could directly support small or underpublicized charities. is department began holding food drives, collecting blankets for the homeless, and cooking and serving breakfast to folks in the community. Later, they named themselves Charity Finders, and invited any Credit Union employee to take part. Charity Finders now has over 30 members from 20 departments, who come together to help support charities of all kinds. e employees select a new charity to support each month. ey donate their time, money and needed items. In 2016, Charity Finders served eight organizations, worked 134 volunteer hours, and donated more than $10,000 in cash and supplies to local charities. In 2017, their goal is to donate to a charity in every county that Redstone serves. Already, they have helped seven organizations, worked over 70 hours, and donated more than $3,500 in cash and supplies. Some of the organizations they have supported are: Mended Little Hearts, First Stop, MADD, Candle Wishes of Murfreesboro, Harris Home for Children, Tutt Fann State Veterans Home, Greater Huntsville Humane Society, New Futures Inc., and Athens Family Resource Center. • Another Huntsville shopper was purchasing a large amount of meat at the meat counter. He said a coworker was suffering from a brain tumor, so he and his coworkers were making jerky to sell as a fundraiser to help cover the medical expenses. • Michelle, a Huntsville waitress, regularly helps feed homeless patrons who come into her restaurant. • Marty, of Murfreesboro, lost his job and is living in his car. He accepted an offer from the Brightness Crew to pay for his gas, but refused the offer of food. "I don't want to be greedy,'' he said. • Laura, of Guntersville, co-founder of the community group PAS Angels Squad, was out purchasing items for a homeless veteran she had just met.
