page 3 I 'm proud to report that Michigan Alpha is off to a strong start to 2017. After transitioning to a new executive board, we successfully recruited the largest winter class in several years. We have also been very involved and successful in on-campus philanthropy events. Academic and Philanthropic Success The chapter currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.335, which is higher than both the on- campus fraternity average and the all-male university average. For several years, we have made St. Baldrick's Foundation, an organization dedicated to childhood cancer research, our top philanthropic priority. Last year's fundraiser garnered over $50,000! This year, we are striving to shatter that record. We are committed to making the largest impact possible. Recruiting New Brothers and Interfraternal Events During winter recruitment, we were able to add 13 new members to our brotherhood, an increase of 62.5% from the previous winter recruitment. On January 21, the chapter won its game in Freeze the Puck on Cancer, an interfraternity hockey game that raised funds for cancer research. The chapter also won the campus's annual Winterfest broomball tournament, held on February 11, which raised over $110,000 for the Autism Alliance of Michigan. Involved across Campus Two senior brothers participated in the Michigan boxing team's first Greek Fight Night. After spending weeks training four days a week, both members were victorious in their bouts. Former chapter president, Henry Adams '17, and former vice president of recruitment, Seth Miller '17, recently finished their terms as Michigan Alpha Starts Spring off Strong Brothers Raise Funds for Cancer Research and Participate in Campus Life Interfraternity Council president and VP internal affairs, respectively. We also have several members running for positions on the Central Student Government for next year. Dad's Weekend On October 21-23, the chapter held its first Dad's Weekend. This included a trip to the Michigan Hockey game at Yost Ice Arena against Michigan Technological University and the Homecoming football game at the Big House against the University of Illinois on Saturday. Finally, we would like to thank our alumni and our parents for their continued support. Please stop by and see us at 730 Tappan; you are always welcome!
