DELTA TAU DELTA Page 2 T he gentlemen of Delta Tau Delta Zeta Sigma have had a busy semester. Bid Day kicked off the semester, and 13 new members walked down the famous steps of the Academic Building to be welcomed into the brotherhood. To help build relationships within the Aggie community, we have had several mixers with Delta Zeta Sorority, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, the Aggie Sweethearts women's organization, and other wonderful groups. The Aggie Sweethearts mixer went very well, and we hope to branch out and meet fellow Aggies outside of the Greek community. Big Event was a huge success. We paired with the Aggie Sweethearts and had 198 people helping out households in the Bryan-College Station community. Projects included cleaning houses for the elderly, cleaning windows for local churches, and helping with large-scale landscaping projects. We created a new event, Best Buddies, with Kappa Alpha Order for children with intellectual and development disabilities. Both fraternities gathered with these kids and had activities for them such as dancing, food, pie in the face, and games. Everyone really enjoyed the event, and it is something that we wish to do again in the future. A proud moment for us was when one of our own, Matthew Pokorney '18, was honored on the stage of Rudder Tower. He was accompanied by the little girl whose life he saved with a bone marrow donation through our Be the Match philanthropic event. Our chapter has matched with and donated to 11 people, and the impact is felt at other Delt chapters. The Delts at Baylor University reached out to us to let us know they have now committed to the Be the Match campaign. We hope we can spread this campaign to many more campuses! The Be the Match organization announced that we will be featured on one of their billboards displayed on Highway 6. Another thing we are working toward is having each active raise $20-$25 for JDRF, which is dedicated to funding type 1 diabetes research. We hope to donate $3,000-$4,000 by the end of the semester. Our chapter has also proudly raised $2,000 for an Aggie Tri Delta member who was undergoing treatment for a rare cancer called olfactory neuroblastoma. Please contact me at any time with questions or suggestions for our chapter. Have a great summer!
