THETA CHAPTER OF KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI | SPRING 2017 Theta News W e are happy to introduce you to our Theta News alumnae newsletter. This newsletter will be sent twice each year and will focus on Theta Chapter, as well as our adored alumnae. This focus will help our members stay in touch and will cultivate awareness and involvement with the chapter. With that in mind, it is important for all sisters to stay informed about the collegiate chapter and what our younger sisters are accomplishing on campus and in the Columbia community. The House Board (HB) has been especially busy over the last couple of years, making many welcomed improvements to the house. Last summer, we saw the completion of the six upstairs bathroom remodeling projects, windows are being replaced as needed, and the lawn continues to be well maintained with the help of vendors who have been with us for a long time. Our revered big black front door still welcomes Kappas and guests and will be reinforced with new framing this summer. As the HB looks ahead to a major project that will support the growing chapter and needs of college students today, members frequently visit with chapter officers and active members to hear their ideas for the future of their house. At least one chapter officer attends the HB meetings, and HB members continue that interaction at Chapter Council meetings as well. With this spirit of interaction, the HB works closely with the Advisory Board. Last August, the two boards hosted a get-together at the house for former board members and alumnae living in the area. Both boards are hosted by the chapter at their annual Founders Day luncheon, which is always a well-attended and enjoyed event. We are also fortunate to have a house director who will begin her 24th year this fall. The importance of her role is undeniable. She watches over the physical facility, the chapter and her staff, and keeps the HB advised of all things that affect the house structure. We are very lucky. Go, Linda! Thank you to each and every one of you who continues to support the chapter in so many ways. We encourage you to reach out to sisters you haven't seen or talked to and reconnect with them. This is a great time to be a member of Theta Chapter, and we value the bonds that have been created through our sisterhood. Vivian joined the sisterhood first, with Susie following four years later. Kappa has extended far beyond their undergraduate years, with both sisters serving in many capacities as alumnae for an impressive total of more than 100 combined years of service. Vivian found staying involved with Theta Chapter was a natural transition since she continued to live in Columbia after graduation. She first volunteered as a member of the Advisory Board and continues to serve on the House Board today. "I have always found Theta Chapter to be a pleasure to serve during the 50-plus years I have had the privilege to do so," Vivian said. Living a few hours away from Columbia in Kansas City has not kept Susie from staying involved herself. She has had the opportunity to experience and serve Kappa in many areas: as an alumnae association officer in Kansas City, Regional Director of Alumnae, Regional Director of Chapters, and she (Continued on page 2) V i vi a n Ey n a tt en Be n e d i c t ' 5 9 S u s ie E yna t t en H ug h es ' 6 3 Our beloved home at 512 Rollins.
