Expanding and ImprovingOur Home on E. Maxwell T he Beta Chi House Corporation has developed a solid plan to address the long-term viability of the Kappa experience at University of Kentucky. Through careful study, assessment, and planning, it has been determined that an expansion to the chapter house is necessary, and we must invest in our home now to meet the needs of today's students. Working with Greek Resources and Tom Wilmes and Associates architecture firm, the Beta Chi House Corporation has developed a tactical approach to our future. The 29,000-square-foot expansion will significantly increase the size of the chapter house, bringing the total square footage of our home to 34,000. The expansion is complete with additional bedrooms, a larger dining and chapter space, and more study space to accommodate the chapter growth. FIRST FLOOR "The chapter house is the heart of the chapter. It is where bonds of sisterhood are solidified, lessons of gracious living are learned, and memories are made. At this point, we can house fewer than half of the women who request to live in the house each year. Once turned away the first time, they are less likely to live in the house as upperclassmen. That impacts their likelihood to remain engaged and to hold office as upperclassmen. This expansion will allow more of our members to live in the house, become truly engaged with the chapter, and have those experiences that we as alumnae hold so dear. Further, this expansion will allow the chapter house to serve as the social and academic hub for the entire chapter, not just the in-house women, thus strengthening our sisterhood on a large scale." – LIBBY GREEN MESSER '99, BETA CHI HOUSE CORPORATION PRESIDENT KITCHEN Restaurant-caliber kitchen designed to adequately serve growing membership daily HISTORIC HOME Front part of the house will be renovated to ensure the historic nature of the home is kept Project Cost: Construction $8,250,000 Furnishings $500,000 Soft Costs $650,000 Total $9.4 million Project Timeline: May 2017: Groundbreaking Spring 2017 – Summer 2018: Construction August 2018: Completion and move in DINING ROOM Comfortably seat 275 members for chapter meals
