AlwAys Anchored Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Gamma • University of Arkansas • Spring 2017 ALPHA OMEGA PRESENTED WITH CHARTER IN FEBRUARY S ome days are busy, some days are memorable, some days are special and some days you'll never forget: that was the weekend of February 17-19 for Alpha Omega. After making it through our first year reestablished on the University of Arkansas campus, the sisters of Alpha Omega gathered on the weekend of February 17-19 to celebrate and participate in the fall 2016 new member class' Inspiration and Initiation, our installation as a full-fledged chapter and the anchor drop of our newly claimed house lot. During the unforgettable evening that combined the installation ceremony and Inspiration, Delta Gamma alumnae gathered from far and wide to attend and celebrate the special event. The Installation ceremony saw many tears shed as Alpha Omega initiates were greeted with their new sisters' loving support and their chapter returned to its rightful home. Alpha Omega was also honored when Fraternity President Stacia Rudge Skoog, Beta Zeta - Denison '81, presented the chapter their charter and passed down sentimental keepsakes from the preceeding Alpha Omega chapter. At the ceremony's conclusion, Alpha Omega alumnae took part in the new members' Inspiration. Upon returning to 625 W. Maple Street, the newly initiated sisters, alumnae and members from the Executive Office celebrated these accomplishments with the anchor being dropped while we all sang "Do I See an Anchor in Your Eye." This moment combined with Inspiration, Initiation and receiving the official charter provided the perfect Delta Gamma weekend in beautiful Fayetteville, Arkansas. This unforgettable weekend in February 2017 will touch the hearts of Alpha Omega sisters for the rest of our lives. Sara's fondness for the Alpha Omega Chapter is a result of the sisterhood she first encountered during recruitment. "I felt the most comfortable there and already knew a few people from a high school visit." Delta Gamma's motto of "Do Good" resonated with Sara. Chapter members were committed to making the world better, and volunteering was important to Sara. She recalls helping at blood drives and hosting Anchor Splash®, even coaching a team one year. Another important aspect of her Delta Gamma membership was learning from the seniors living in the house. "I could look up to them as role models, specifically Carolyn Martin Pittman '82 and Linda Kay Martin Smith '81." The sorority not only prepared her for a lifetime of philanthropy, but also provided opportunities to hold leadership positions. As scholarship chairman and Panhellenic representative, Sara developed confidence that undoubtedly is important in her career as a commercial actress. She works with Page Parkes Corp. in both film and print commercials. "It was not exactly what I went to school for, but I enjoy meeting new people and having new experiences. It was one of those things I just fell into." One of her most recent jobs was for Francesca's. "I was not the model for the clothes; I was the mom." (Continued on page 2)
