G reetings and good day, brothers. The FIU SigEp alumni 30th anniversary gala was a night to remember. Re-engaging with Florida Nu alumni, listening about the the AVC's ambitious plans to firmly establish FIU SigEp as the leaders and innovators among the FIU Greek community, and reminiscing about those memories that created a brotherhood we share made for not only a memorable, but a historic night. Action and motion forward continued with a historic announcement at the gala that we will initiate efforts to build a SigEp Educational Learning Community building on the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus. This structure will be a possible two- to three-story facility that will contain a place for the Florida Nu Chapter to conduct business such as tutoring, meetings, and ritual on the first floor. The upper- floor tenants would include designated space for other Greek organizations or other FIU departments, which would help in FIU's challenging spacing issues. We are excited to continue the steps needed to make this dream come true. Not to be outdone, we hosted another exceptional Red Door Classic golf tournament that raised much-needed dollars for charity. An extraordinary day made for fun and competitive golf resulted in $40,000 raised for the Buoniconti Fund, FIU SigEp First Generation Endowment Account Scholarships, and FIU SigEp General Scholarships. Our Chapter, both on the alumni side and the student side, has gathered momentum and is gaining steam. Our ambitious goals can only occur with your support. There is strength in numbers, and our fraternity has always positioned itself to be the optimum best. Be on the lookout for information on everything we have going on, including details about Conclave in August in Orlando, happy hour networking events, and more. Look forward to seeing you soon! Florida Nu Celebrates 30 Years at Fiu I n January, 230 brothers and guests attended the FIU SigEp 30-year anniversary celebration, coined "The 30!" The event was held at the Miami Beach Women's Club and was an incredible success. The 30! committee (Rey Perez '03, Sean Gazitua '04, Tom Jelke '90, and Rebecca Jelke) wanted to make this event special and decided to deviate from the typical sit-down dinner you find at most reunions. The decision turned out to be a great one as participants were treated to a bevy of experiences and entertainment that made the night incredibly fun. There was a photo booth, tarot card readings, blackjack tables, an ice sculpture and champagne fountain, DJ and band, hookah lounge, and even a lady whose dress doubled as a sushi table. Brothers from every year of FIU SigEp's existence (1986-2017) were represented, including five founding fathers (Manny Becerra '86, Tim Benjamin '89, Julio Martinez '87, Ed Santamaria '88, and Jaime Santiago '87). We even had one brother, Rodrigo Duarte '06, fly in all the way from Shanghai to be a part of the festivities. You can check out all the pictures and the video from the event on our website, fiusigepalumni.com. We look forward to planning the 35-year reunion and seeing you all there. Cheers, Tom Jelke '90
