Spring 2017 Alumni Brothers Delta Upsilon of Sigma Chi Re: Executive Summary - "Operation Vitalize" Brothers, e dream that just six months ago seemed impossible is now a reality. We have a revitalized active chapter, a functioning House Corporation, and the newly organized K-State Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter, a not-for-profit corporation. We are the self-appointed, interim directors of the Alumni Chapter. ose realities are the result of a watershed meeting of eight brothers in Kansas City on October 1, 2016, who shared one thought: that although the active chapter had underperformed for years, it could be resurrected and once again be a leading fraternity. As a result, Sam Forrer and Doug Burton offered to: Design an alumni association operating system that will consistently yield top-tier performance and conduct of the active chapter. at system has been designed and implemented as a result of three decisions: (1) take a completely different approach, abandon the past practices; (2) compile and distribute important information to the alumni; and (3) ask the House Corporation to suspend soliciting funds for renovating the chapter house until that information is ready. is summary explains what transpired in the last six months that brought about these dramatic changes. We are immensely pleased with the results. One thing yet remains: the direly needed renovation of the chapter house. Each of us has made a "stretch" pledge to support that effort. We hope this information will clearly demonstrate that a new era for Sigma Chi at Kansas State has arrived. We hope you will join us and do likewise. Please contact any of us with your thoughts, suggestions, and questions. We promise a quick response. When I moved in as pledge in 1985, it was the newest and nicest chapter house in Manhattan. irty- five years later, neither is true. e years and changing desires of incoming freshmen have made the physical structure a severe liability in our ability to recruit and retain the top young men to Sigma Chi. e new standards of conduct and performance the active chapter have enacted have positioned us to move forward with a much-needed renovation. e financial plan put together by Brothers Seitzer and Fox and our treasurer, Angela Cunningham, has budgeted funds for upkeep to keep a new structure polished and presentable year aer year. e expertise in property management of our new house director, Julie Cro, will enable us to respond to needed repairs in a timely manner. In short, the pieces are in place to sustain a renovated structure. All we need now is your support. We plan to begin renovation in May of 2018. e cost estimate from our architects is $3.6 million. We are well on our way there and I am asking you for your support to complete this campaign to allow us to usher in a "New Era of Excellence" at Sigma Chi. In hoc, Doug Burton, M.D. '89
