Chamber Hires Government Liaison The Fayetteville-Cumberland County
Chamber of Commerce announced a new addition to its Economic Development Group. On March 15, Doug Byrd joined the Chamber of Commerce team as a part- time liaison between local government of- fi cials and the Chamber. “In order to foster an open relationship with our local government partners and to guarantee that Cumberland County is poised for economic recruitment success, I am proud to announce the addition of Doug Byrd to our economic development team,” said Douglas
Peters, president and CEO of the Chamber. Byrd joins the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce with 30 years of experience in the fi eld of economic development and industry recruitment. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Commerce in 2008 having served as both an Industrial Development Representative and Director of Industrial Recruitment as well as Community Relations Manager and Legislative Liaison. He most recently assisted the Jackson- ville-Onslow Economic Development Group as Existing Industry Director.

Byrd said. “Good communication is the key to success in any economic development program. I look forward to working with all the elected offi cials in order to make Cumberland County one of the top counties in North Carolina in terms of economic growth.” Byrd has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from East Carolina University where he continues to be an active alumnus. He has served as president of the Pirates Club and is currently Chairman Emeritus of the ECU Board of Visitors.
