Congratulations to Charlon Gibbs Beginning Teacher of the Month for Cumberland County Schools The Beginning Teacher of the Month for March is Ms. Charlon Gibbs, a 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Luther “Nick” Jeralds Middle School. Ms. Gibbs is in her second year at Jeralds and has become an integral part of her school culture. She is represen- tative of the philosophy of high expectations that is extolled at Jeralds. From the moment she joined Jeralds’s faculty, she has shown her students a new way to experience her classes with the use of varied interactive tech- nologies. She takes the time to research and incorporate new strategies, which other teachers have begun to use in their classrooms as well. Not only does Ms. Gibbs excel in the classroom, but she is also heavily involved in extracurricular athletics. She coaches the volleyball and soft- ball teams-both of which have been extremely competitive during her tutelage. During basketball season, she volunteers her time to run the clock for the games and help coach the girls’ team. Her dedication to her students in the class and out has earned her special recognition as a beginning teacher. Ms. Gibbs was raised in Bayboro, NC and graduated from Fayetteville State University with a Bachelor of Arts in his- tory. Gibbs comes from a large famiy where aca- demics and athletics were encouraged, which is why she pushes her students to excel.
