2A Daily News – Friday, September 7, 2012 Community people&events Tri-County Sams outing The Tri-County Sams Chapter of the Good Sam Club held a wonderful campout at the Shingletown KOA Campground in August with eight member rigs and two guest rigs in attendance. Several rigs met for breakfast at the Cozy Diner in Red Bluff on Friday morning. Steve Simon of Los Molinos, who is the former Wagon Master of the North Sam Singles, met the group for breakfast. He is interested in attending our campouts as his Chapter has disbanded, but he was unable to get reservations at Shingletown as they were completely filled up for the weekend. On Friday night, the campground hosts provided an outdoor movie with popcorn for everyone to enjoy. On Saturday morning we held our usual "Meet and Greet" and enjoyed good food and conversation. Several members attended the fun day at the Shin- gletown Fire Department and others enjoyed travel- ing around the area. In the afternoon, the hosts held an Ice Cream Social for the entire campground. Sat- urday evening we held our Baby Back Ribs Barbecue Potluck in the outdoors, with our meeting to follow. Trail Bosses were Darlene and Vic Dickison, who decorated the tables using baskets of sea shells, with sea shells spread down the middle of the tables and tea candles on teal colored dishes. Zip Lock Bags of candy were placed at each place setting. We held a raffle on a large basket filled with BBQ items for our Charity Fund, with the winner being Sharon Furia of Orland. Guests for the weekend were Ward Campbell of Red Bluff and Patti Del- Fraite. Both people are potential new members of our Chapter. like to go on monthly campouts with a great small group of people are encouraged to call Wagon Mas- ter Lisa Sol at 385-1344 or President Richard Sol at 200-7403. Neighborhood watch It's meeting time again for the Richfield Neighborhood David Price of Corning speaks to the Corning Exchange Club at it's Aug. 20 evening meeting. David entertained the club with memories of a recent trip to Turkey that he and his wife Susan recently returned from. He recounted their visits to Istanbul (previously known as Constantinople during the Roman empire), the WWI battlefield of Galipoli, mosques and marketplaces; and more importantly shared his take on the secular version of Islam found in Turkey. David works a detective in the Anderson Police Department, and retired as an Army Colonel after 15 years of active duty and 15 years in the reserve. During a distinguished Army career Price served in many important positions and two tours of service in Iraq training the new Iraqi army and police force. The Corning Exchange club is appreciative for David sharing his trip to Turkey with us, and salutes him for his 30 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Army and for his continuing service as a law enforce- ment officer.
