Theta Kite 2 thetA sisters DemonstrAte leADership AnD volunteerism T his past year, our members at Alpha Chi have been busier than ever! We initiated 49 charismatic and ambitious women into the chapter in October. It has been such a rewarding experience to build friendships and guide them through their time in Theta. We have also been enjoying our brand new renovations in the "Peach Palace" at 607 Russell. We are so privileged to live in such a beautiful place! Our members continue to be involved across the world through study abroad programs and several prestigious internships. We have sisters studying in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain. This fall and spring, women have interned with Disney World, Ernst and Young in Indianapolis, and the Today Show through the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Whether the women of Alpha Chi are represented in clubs such as Old Masters and Rising Professionals, or spend their time volunteering with Pete's Pals and Walking with Wisdom, it is clear that Thetas remain top leaders on Purdue's campus. We are proud of three of our members who serve in Panhellenic roles and continue to help the Greek community at Purdue grow positively. We are lucky to be surrounded with such powerful women as our sisters and are excited to see what the rest of the semester has in store. Loyally in Theta, Claire Schumann'14 Chief Executive Officer Kappa Alpha Thetas participated in last fall's Winterization Program. Students helped to "winterize" homes in the local Lafayette community for those who are not able to do it themselves. This included raking leaves, clearing gutters, washing windows, and more. Students see the program as a great opportunity to give back to the local community. Thetas at 607 Russell Street gathered in front of the fireplace in the newly renovated living room to send a message—Thank You!—to all of the alumnae who donated to the Century of Sisterhood Campaign and made the renovation possible. The brick surrounding the fireplace was stripped of its paint to add warmth to the room and to return it to the way it was when the house was built. It doesn't show in the photo, but just above the mantle, painted in gold lettering, is Alpha Chi's founding date, "Alpha Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, May 22, 1915," and high up on the overmantle is the Theta shield that was completed late in 2016. Chief Education Officer, Samantha Boram '14, took a group in March to Kappa Alpha Theta Headquarters in Indianapolis. The women were taken on a tour and loved the opportunity to learn more about where Theta came from.
