I hope that this edition of The Cordelt finds you and your families well and enjoying spring with its warmer weather, the awakening of greenery from the winter chill, and longer days. I am happy to report that the undergraduates had another successful spring recruitment and will be welcoming 13 new men into the brotherhood. Combined with the strong fall recruitment, we have added more than 20 new Beta Omicron brothers. We were recognized at the Eastern Division Conference as having one of the largest membership growths in the country. On behalf of all Beta Omicron alumni, I would like to congratulate the undergraduates and ask them to keep striving to grow the chapter. On another note, I am pleased to announce that due to the extreme generosity of Kenneth Schapiro, father of Chapter President Zachary Schapiro '18, the Shelter's chapter room has beautiful new hardwood flooring, which replaced the long-overdue worn-out carpet. Mr. Schapiro provided all funding for this replacement and Zachary performed the legwork of meeting with Cornell Facilities to find a vendor, an appropriate product, and acquire quotes for the work. It is this unsolicited help by our brotherhood and their families that makes Delt the shining example of fraternities on campus. I personally want to thank the Schapiro family for their donation to the fraternity. Since my last writing in the fall, a lot has changed both on campus and in our country. The Cubs finally won a World Series, the American people elected a new president, Cornell welcomed its new president this month, Travis Apgar has resigned from his role in the office of Campus and Community Engagement Fraternities, Sororities, and Independent Living, and there is now a master plan on campus to expand undergraduate housing in the next five years. This housing expansion plan is designed to ensure all sophomores are guaranteed on-campus housing availability, thus adding more pressure on us to maintain our Shelter. These changes are of varying sizes and have varying degrees of impact for all of us, both as alumni and undergraduates, and most will not be fully understood for some time. However, as a brotherhood that prides itself on open communication and acceptance of all, I would ask that each brother ask themselves how they can help make the lives of those around them better. Whether it is donating time or money to a worthy cause, questioning or supporting the actions of those in power, or opening our doors to those in need, we must remember that our Creed states: "I believe in Delta Tau Delta as a shrine of international brotherhood; her cornerstone friendship, her foundation conscience, her columns aspiration, her girders self-restraint, her doorway opportunity, her windows understanding, her buttresses loyalty, her strength the Everlasting Arms." This statement is critical to our success as an organization. It has helped guide thousands of men over the last 127 years of Beta Omicron, and will continue to do so for decades to come. If you are unsure how you can help, please reach out to me or any of the members of the House Corporation.
