Delta Gamma page 3 B eta Kappa Chapter has had a great few months full of sisterhood events, positive programming, achievements, and success. Members are achieving great things academically and we've had fun sisterhood events, study nights, weekend brunches, and social events to reward ourselves for our hard work. The executive board's goal is to help members thrive and become the best women they can be. They've been doing their part to make this happen, so we've been doing ours. NeW ACADemiC iNCeNTive PROGRAm Beta Kappa achieved a 3.28 fall 2016 Chapter GPA. Our GPA has climbed 0.9 in the last year and we credit this to hard work from our members and the new scholarship program that was implemented last fall. Now, instead of doing study hours, we do study points. Members earn study points by doing things that are likely out of their usual academic routine, such as going to office hours or getting help at the writing center. Members should be studying multiple hours a week on their own, regardless of Delta Gamma requirements, but this new point system rewards members for going above and beyond academically instead of rewarding them for something they are already doing. DONATiNG TO DeLTA GAmmA FOuNDATiON Last fall, we hosted Anchor Splash®. The week consisted of penny wars, anchor man, "spot a DG," banners, videos, anchor slam, percentage nights, and a swim meet. We donated 100 percent of our proceeds to the Delta Gamma Foundation. This spring, we are hosting our second annual Desserts with DG, and will sell $5 tickets for all- you-can-eat treats. BeTA KAPPA WeLCOmeS Six NeW memBeRS Our spring new member class consists of six awesome freshman women. They completed the new member program and were initiated on March 29. Our director of new members, meredith Burtin '15, has loved getting to know and educating the new members this semester. "The new member program has gone very well so far, and all six women transitioned exceptionally into Delta Gamma," Meredith said. THe AmAziNG RACe— LAWReNCe vieWS eDiTiON This fall, we held "The Amazing Race— Lawrence Views Edition" for a sisterhood retreat. Members were put in teams and given one hint to lead them to a specific location in Lawrence. Once they got there, they were given the second hint, and so on. This race took them all around Lawrence so they could become more familiar with their home away from home and feel connected to the community. At the beginning of this semester, we also co-hosted a roller skating event with Pi Kappa Phi. We all took buses to the rink, skated around, played limbo, and danced. SiSTeRS vALue ON-CAmPuS LeADeRSHiP Members of our Chapter are extensively involved on campus, and multiple members serve on Student Senate, in Panhellenic positions, or as officers in other student organizations. mattie Carter '14 is running for student body vice president with the coalition who won last spring. She has support from our Chapter as well as the other Delta Gammas who serve on Student Senate. The Panhellenic representative on Student Senate is Hailey Whipple '14. All eight of our members who applied to serve as fall 2017 recruitment counselors were accepted. Lesan Peters '14 serves as risk management chairman for Panhellenic, and Sarah Smoot '14 serves on the Panhellenic Judicial Board as well. Our members recognize the importance and value of being actively involved on campus, and we are very proud of them for it. Our Chapter's watchword for this year is "purpose." We set this as our watchword to encourage one another to focus on the purpose of our membership in Delta Gamma, requirements that come with membership, the things that we do as a chapter, and every member's unique purpose. Our goals are to come up with solutions rather than just problems, always start with "why," and to achieve a 3.3 spring 2017 Chapter GPA.
