Officers
theodore l. Farmer '50 retired in 1991 as a
civil engineer and director of public works with
Butler County. He and his wife, Alice, live in
El Dorado, Kan., and have a son, Bob. Their
son, Ron, passed away in 2013. Ted has been a
successful poet since 2003, published a book of
poetry in 2011, and is a member of the Kansas
Author's Club. Ted remembers Alice being
serenaded by the chapter, directed by Dan Clark,
who sang "The Sweetheart Song" solo. E-mail:

ronald G. peterson '54 and his wife, Nadine,
have four children, six grandchildren, and
two great-grandchildren. They have lived in
Bloomington, Minn., since 1961, and Ronald
retired in 1989 as a teacher for the Bloomington
public schools. Golfing, fishing, and yardwork
keep them very busy. "Thanks to Kansas and
Mother Boss!"
Frederick b. Shields iii '54 retired in 1991
from Rockwell International. He and his wife,
Mary, live in Lenexa, Kan., and have two
children, Sarah and David. They celebrated their
60th anniversary last year, and Fred likes to say,
"Everyone that was betting against us is now

Clayton e. burke '58 transferred to the
University of Michigan in spring 1956 and
graduated in 1958 with a BSE in chemical
engineering. He worked for 30 years in the paper
and forest products industry, then 13 years in
the investment management field. He retired in
2003 as a partner with Burke, Lawton, Brewer
& Burke. Clay and his wife, Sue, have four
daughters and eight grandchildren and live in
an independent living retirement community in
Willow Street, Pa. "Our welcome mat is always
out for those willing to risk traveling eastward."
They have enjoyed traveling throughout the
country over the years and recently visited bill
walter '58 and wally brown '58 in Eureka, Ill.

Keith Swenson '58 reports that at the age of
80, after 15 years of "retirement," he decided to
officially retire. He sold his home and downsized
to an apartment in downtown Bellevue, Wash.,
with his wife, Dixie. He is active, in great health,
and is chairman of the Bellevue Environmental
Services Commission.
