2 The WISE OLD OWL LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN TOTALS T he Legacy of Excellence campaign recently came to a close, and we are deeply grateful for the following generous alumni for committing $196,278. T his year, the Epsilon Kappa Chapter put a renewed focus into our Derby Days philanthropy. After raising slightly more than $2,000 in 2014 (and not holding Derby Days in 2015), we were able to raise nearly $28,000 for Special Olympics Greater Memphis in 2016. Some of the events that we threw included a summer golf tournament, a draft night where sororities drafted brothers for their Derby Days team, a concert with a local up-and-coming band, and a very successful event called Sign-a-Sig. Sorority Women Contribute $12,000 We are proud to say that we were able to get the seven Panhellenic sororities on campus heavily involved with Derby Days. The women enjoyed getting involved and raised more than $12,000 toward our total. We ended the week with a pageant-like contest where one representative from each sorority competed to be named the Derby Doll of our Chapter. For the Sign-a- Sig event, brothers wore white T-shirts and Jerry Buckaloo '55 James Harwell '56 Olin Atkins '57 John Bannister '58 Corky Dalton '61 Dr. Ted Mealor '62 Jim McLeod '63 James Wadell '63 Johnny Simpson '64 Howard Cowgill '65 Tracy Norville '65 Jere Glover '66 Mike Harless '66 Denny Baker '67 Bill Fulton '67 Tom Greer '67 Ronnie Tacker '67 Paul Holt '68 Stan Peppenhorst '68 Mike Richmond '68 Don Wilson '68 Bunky Wingfield '68 Gary Grear '69 Henry Askew '70 Gordon Brigman '70 Rex Hamm '70 Bobby Maness '70 Wayne Brown '71 Mike Dreve '71 Billy Drumm '71 Jeff Garrety '71 Mike Logan '71 Jerry Maness '71 Bob Brown '72 Lloyd Rowland '72 Walter Allen '73 Mike Kyle '77 Joe Pollard '79 David Barczak '83 Mike Zachry '86 Scott Walker '88 Mike Keenan '89 Robbie Longfield '89 Kurt Voldeng '89 Michael Wiegert '89 Bryan P. Nearly $28,000 Raised at Derby Days Undergraduates Shatter Fundraising Expectations had sorority women sign them and we gave a point to each sorority for every signature. This event not only helped raise money, but it also raised excitement for the rest of the week and encouraged people on campus to get involved with the cause. Hard Work Pays Off At the end of the week, we invited the members of Special Olympics Greater Memphis to campus for a field day where we played games with the Olympians and revealed the total amount of money we raised. The event allowed our brothers and sorority women to spend the day with the people they had worked so hard for. The ability to easily connect our efforts to the actual philanthropy allowed the Chapter to immediately appreciate all of the work that we put in throughout the entire year. $200,000 GOAL $196,278 Raised Our goal was to raise $200,000; we were short by a little more than $3,000. Although the campaign has officially ended, it is not too late to donate and help us reach our goal. Your generous donations will help secure Epsilon Kappa's future.
