MEATLOAF SANDWICH $ 5 BLB (Barbi's Lunch Box) thru April 29 By Trevon Tapp The Salome National Honor Society (NHS) had their induction ceremony on March 27. There were two new inductees this year, Lulu Mejia and Ashley Garza. The National Honor Society has welcomed them into their organization be- cause they exemplify the four pillars of Charac- ter, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. The ceremony was a great success. Many parents and teachers showed up to recognize the achieve- ments of these two girls as well as the hard work of all the other members of the society. The Track team has had recent meets at Havasu and Phoenix Christian. On April 22nd, there will be a Track meet at Bourgade and another on the 26th at West View. Hector, one of the throwers for SHS, said that "the throwers are doing well and are having fun. First-year thrower, Jacob Phillips, can chuck the disc and shot putt way out there." Mario, a runner, said that "track has been pretty okay so far. Rene Soqui has had the best fi nish out of the team." SHS has been put- ting up some particularly good results in the hurdles with many fi rst place fi nishes from Mo- riah Freedman and Jose Armenta. Over on the ball diamond, the softball team have been getting better every day and are really im- proving. They had their fi rst win against San Pasqual. Coach McCarty says, "softball season is going well the girls are working really hard and are improving every day." The baseball team has had a rough start but are not letting that deter them from having a good year. Their coach, Mr. Clough, had this to say: "It's been pretty rough... we haven't won a game but the kids are improv- ing so we're hoping to win a game soon." Sandra Downes has been nominated for this year's Teacher of the Year award. One teacher from each La Paz County school is selected to re- ceive the honor. Each nominee is invited to attend the annual Teacher of the Year Banquet at Salome High School where the overall winner will be an- nounced. Food is prepared and served by Ms. Di- hel's culinary class for everyone to enjoy. Yearbook is still selling ads for organizations who are interested in buying one. For a full page, it is $150.00, half-page is $90, a quarter page is $70, and a business card sized ad is $50. Purchasing an ad is a great way to promote any business or organization and to show your sup- port for Salome High School. Contact us at (928) 859-3453, extension 4805.
